hey guys, im sure there are probably a few threads on this alreay but i cant seem to find any Sad please point me in the direction of one if you know though!

alright, been djing for ages, and know enough bout production/computers etc. anyway, only just upgraded my setup and wanted to crank some give away CD's!

Alas! Recording seems to not want to work.

Iv got numark TTs, Pio 800s and a DDM4000 (has S/Pdif output but at the moment are only using normal RCA out)

I have ran 2x RCAS from the "booth/record" outputs into my line in on my desktop computer (pretty decent comp), but when i record (in any program) i get a lot of hum/buzzz underneath the track. Its not the track or the input because it does it even if the track is not playing/mixer is even off!

Could the line in plug behind my computer be picking up interference from power cords etc and making the buzz?

Was thinking about getting a new soundcard with S/PDIF in/out and using that but if thats still not going to work then im not going to waste my money.

Please if anyone could help that would be great.

OR any other (easier) way to record my mixes!

cheers guys

Yes.

cheers chaos, was driving me crazy

would making it SPDIF in/out make it any better? or am i still going to pick up the buzz? Is there any other way i could do it, as the line in is at the back obviously right where all the power is, so theres no way to move it

cheers

Try insulating the power and/or audio lines. I always record my mixes into a lappy so I dont run into the same problems, but yeah, Id say the most likely culprit is electrical interference.

Check the line out of the mixer as well and make sure its not sitting near any adapters or power cables. Best bet is to keep them as far from each other as is possible (space permitting).

Not sure if making the IOs S/PDIF will make a difference as I dont know enough about it. I wouldve thought you would run into the same insulation problem but I could be wrong...

This.

Or an iRiver, cheap, and they record straight to mp3 so you can upload them directly to the net.

ok so i have decided i really want an iRiver, as they are exactly what i want. if im djing somewhere out or with my mates i can quickly rip it out and record a mix. Line-in aswell!

However! what the fu*k no one seems to have them anymore, its all this ipod business. And iRiver seemed to stop doing their 320kbps recording quality on their new models.

the iRivers im looking for are an H320, H340 or an iFP-7** or 8**. Anyone got one for sale?

chur for the help guys

Good info here, i was also getting the buzzing when recording.

As for the iriver can i record straight to the iriver then upload the file onto my computer?

What does the iriver get plugged into, from the 2 rcas into the 3.5mm iriver jack or...?

Yes, you can.

Yep, RCA to 3.5mm to record, then USB to upload to PC Smile

Awesome they seem good, but most irivers are quite old, like scotty said. Any other mp3 players do it?

Also with an ipod you sync your tunes with itunes and updates when you plug it in .etc. with an iriver do you have to drag/drop the files to make songs/select playlists .etc.

Sorry don't mean to hijack the thread Smile

its all good guys Smile

i have solved my own problem!

Bought a 1gb iriver T30 off trademe, $40, its old but still looks brand new. And all i can say is this thing is amazing.

1gb you wouldnt think is much, but i can record 7 and a half (YES SEVEN AND A HALF!) hours of mix at 320kbps with line-in.

Amazing, made about 3 mix CD's yesterday alone.

Thanks guys for all your help, im very happy with my purchace!
