Arghhh! I just got this e-mail from the organisers/promoters of Breakz of Dawn, due to hit it off this Saturday in Wgtn. Has anyone got any suggestions I could forward onto them for places for an outdoor event in Wellington?

This event looked like it was gonna rock the fucking house (the original location was godamm spectacular by the sound of it)

----------------------------------------
Hi..
Things took a turn for the worst last night.
We were informed via cultural affairs that Wellington city council didn't
actually have the right to allow us to use the massey venue, which is
a major problem!!!
The only things which can be done are
1.-Contact the massey family and ask their permission (Being done right
now)
2.-Change the location (being worked on right now)
3.-Cancel and refund tickets (Noooo!!!!!!!!)

This is a sorry state of affairs and extremely frustrating for all involved,
there is a precedent of events being held at this location all which
went ahead by not informing the council of what they were doing, it is
incredibly infuriating to have it proven once again that if you try to
play by the rules you'll get fucked over.

If we get approval the event will definitely go ahead, but to use a new
venue we would have to have it all sorted out by the end of today as
to allow enough time to inform the general public of what has happened..
Please forward on any suggestions.....

Anyone got any 'ideas'? This look(s/ed) so good.

I just heard the same news, STINK.

I will keep my thinking cap on for other venue ideas. Doesn't sound like it will happen anymore though, being so late in the week and all, cross those fingers, I was sooo looking forward to this!
[quote]
Yeah, it fucking sucks eh... Sad Colgate bought his ticket yesterday, I hadn't grabbed mine, but had just rounded up a couple of mates to do as well ... so I'm pretty bummed.

Where else could you do a dance party like this in Wgtn you reckon? And even if they found somewhere, how would they get the word out to all the people who have already bought tickets? Sad
[quote]
hehehehe, i got that too, i suggested pauhatanui, that camping place out there, or makara, paraparam way (rather not tho, that will fill up with param idiots), featherston, the haywards, there's lots of land out there.... there's heaps!
[quote]
SHIT!!!!!!!!!

[quote]
Rooted man. Totally sucks. I really don't hold much hope of them being able to relocate so late in the week. Gonna have to look for alternatives for this weekend. Think I'll go to Klute on Friday night, at least I'll still be in on some good DnB action then, although it is twice the price =(

Hope they're going to refund the tickets...
[quote]
Yeah, full refund. And it's off. Officially. Argh. Here's the full story/moan FYI. Damn.

I'm not keen on Friday night really, was more keen on doing Saturday - so maybe Twisted at Phoenix? Cheap as..... and should be damn good. Big DJ line-up too. (Check the Yoji thread) Smile

-------------------------
We got fucked by Wellington city council and cultural affairs.
The council told us we could hold this party, if we met the health and
safety requirements, which we did...It seemed all good and all go until
last night when I got a call from cultural affairs telling me they had
been informed of this event by council and they had no right to allow
us to hold it, the only options were to talk to the massey family (move
location) or cancel..
Cultural affairs tried the first option, this failed.. We spent all day
trying to organise an alternative venue, and got completely fucked around..there
is no way we are able to do this event this weekend and don't really
want to risk loosing any more money until we have everything exactly
worked out...
So Breakz of Dawn is canceled for the time-being....
We're going to attempt to reorganise everything and sort something new
out at some point in the future, but for awhile we need to take a breather
and reassess what has happened and where we're going to go from here,
if we can get the council in any way (which is extremely unlikely)....
So sorry to everyone involved...
Refunds will be available asap from Cosmic corner and firm fm..
(If you got a promo from active, don't even bother trying, they're distinctively
different)
To get a refund you will need to have the ticket, information sheet and
DJ list all together with the bag.

This is a sorry state of affairs for all of us and we're sorry it's fucked
out but as you can see it's not actually our fault, it's infuriating
and frustrating to know that working through the correct channels(ie:local
body government) results in this sort of thing, and only a couple of
days before the event also..

Peace + Respect

Well it's allready raining on my parade LXR - Don't bloody add sleet to it!! to make matters worse I even tried to get a ticket but theyd #$%ing soldout.

Well anyways, screw the council, I'm still going hard this weekend. Thinking about a Friday and Saturday. Might try and do Klute friday and Twisted saturday.
[quote]
Wooo! Twisted! Saturday! Yay! See! You! There! I! Think!

Okay, that was overdoing it. Given DC is in da house, I wonder how many peeps will be @twisted. Hopefully plenty. *nods* $10 for like 14 local DJs! Andy B! The Fevah crew! Woo!
[quote]
I'll be there got work till late so maybe not till about 3 but ill swing by and check it out.
[quote]
You mean Twisted? Cool, cool. Smile The more the merrier. Muahahaha!
[quote]
There is always door sales Colgate, why ruin a good night out by going to a Drum n Bass Party Wink
hehe

[quote]
Ah well . . . thanks for trying P.lex kru
Keep trying eh?
Wellington needs an outdoor scene seriously bad!!!
Big ups for any continued efforts . . .
[quote]
Yeah, damn straight, Cerulean. It would be cool to do some outdoors events, especially now it's summer and so the weather /might/ be more accomodating!
[quote]
It's the only way to go, given the season. . . .
[quote]
Well looking at the shit weather outside right now, I think this whole summer rumour is unsubstantiated. Shit thats a long word.

Went into Firm records today and they thought B.O.D was still on. I couldn't convince them otherwise and they were still selling tickets at midday today. I called Active and they confirmed it was all off..

Whats happening in town tonite anyone?
[quote]
Yeah, it's on Obscure.co.nz as being off as well. Firm Records need a kicking. Although I guess the organisers should have been calling outlets up at 9am to advise. Shoddy.

So Colgate... going to Klute after all?

Move it over to the Wairarapa.
[quote]
the latest on this is they're gonna do it up mt vic
[quote]
Mount Vic? I don't give it much chance of going the distance (or us punters for that matter) up there. I get the feeling that the powers that be won't be too into outdoor dance parties right in town . . . unless they're planning to do it guerilla stylez?
[quote]
Yup, yup, I didn't post it here. Probably should have eh? here you guys go. E-mail them if you're interested.

-------------------
Okay..so this fucked out real bad and sucked for all involved..
However we have a future plan.
One friday or saturday night get a small rig, generator, and some lights
and cruise up mount vic and do an impromptu koha gig...
Talked to AndyB about it and apparently it's real easy to get away with
up there...
so foward this on to any friends who may be interested and get them to
mail me with contact details and when we have enough people who are keen
and we're not jaded we'll drop the event and have a wicked night..
No advertsing,just word of mouth..
