THE BREAKFASTAZ - UK

Froe, Gav and Merf make up the nu-skool breaks collective known as The Breakfastaz. They have been working together on a number of musical projects for several years and the wide ranging influences they collectively bring have helped to form their unique breakbeat sound. With over 17 successful releases and remixes on respected breaks labels such as Passenger and Mob in little over 12 months, their offerings have received support and heavy rotation from scene stalwarts such as the Freestylers, Meat Katie, Aquasky, Krafty Kuts, Plump DJs, Deekline, Tayo, Ali B and even catching the ear of Seb Fontaine, highlighting the enormous impact they’ve had on the scene in such a short period of time. To back up their releases, the guys have been DJing everywhere from London to Spain to the United States and were also invited to do guest shows and interviews on Radio 1 (Annie Nightingale), Xfm (Eddie Temple-Morris) and Kiss 100 (Tayo), accompanying their weekly shows on Pyrotechnic Radio (Fridays 3-5PM GMT - www.pyrotechnicradio.com) and on Breaks FM (Saturdays 6-8pmPM GMT - www.breaksfm.com). Their hard work is already being recognised, with the guys being featured on the front cover of IDJ’s ‘Players Of The Year 2004’ December edition and recently winning Best Breakthrough Act at the Breakspoll World Breakbeat Awards 2005, as well as being nominated for Best Producers too. The future is also looking bright for The Breakfastaz with imminent releases on Against The Grain and an album project looming large.
What the press say:
'…there is no hotter act right now in the Breakbeat scene and considering how good everyone's become lately, that really is saying something.' - DJ Mag, April '04
'The future of UK dance music is safe if the hands of these 3 West London boys!' – Eddy Temple-Morris, XFM, Jan '05
'With pinpoint dance-floor targeting and rough 'n' tough production, The Breakfastaz have quickly become breakbeat hot property…' – Knowledge, July '04
'…The Breakfastaz fire the warning shots of this mobs arrival into the breakbeat premier league…' – Knowledge, August '04
'Although it's been a good year for breaks generally, there's been little in the way of shit-hot new talent coming through. There has, however, been one new name on the breaks circuit that will forever be connected with 2004; The Breakfastaz.' – IDJ, December '04

DEFCON1 - Australia
Defcon1 aka 28-year-old Duncan Cook is today considered by clubbers and his peers alike to be one of Sydney’s, and Australia’s leading breakbeat DJs. Not one to be shy behind the decks, Defcon1 has a well earnt reputation for smashing up the dancefloors wherever he drops the bass, be it clubs, raves or outdoor festivals…he is out there on the decks solely to have fun with the punters, and is with them every step of the way on their mission for a massive night out. Along with DJs like Kid Kenobi, Q45 and Co., Defcon1 is an integral corner of Sydney’s world-class breaks scene, and has been interviewed and reviewed in major dance music publications and websites. Coming from the world of Hip hop, Defcon1 started out his musical career producing beats and MCing with well-known left-field beat-smiths Fathom (Mushroom/EMI). With several vinyl releases under his belt with his Fathom cohorts, Defcon1 discovered dance floor breakbeat. Originally a strictly Drum n Bass fiend, Defcon1 could be found lurking around the city at events cutting his teeth as a DnB selecta. With his first spots playing at mate’s parties, illegal raves and fundraisers, Defcon1 started playing out in 1999. Defcon1’s sets are notorious for being a party rockin mix of breaks driven music: the fattest breaks mixed up with Electro, 2 step/UK garage, House, Hip Hop, Booty, DnB and even the odd Techno tune! Promoters have chosen Defcon1 to support the following international DJs: Soul of Man, Paul Arnold, Bushwacka, Norman Jay, Freq Nasty, 10Sui, Koma & Bones, DJ Godfather, DJ Assault, Fischerspooner, Aquasky, Rennie Pilgrim, Atomic Hooligan, DJ Dan, Danny Macmillan, Deekline, Aquasky, Simply Jeff, Huda Hudia, DJ Gumbee, SOTO, MC Skibadee, Tipper, Nubreed, Friendly and Infusion. Defcon1 has also done serious damage on the airwaves, with live sets on Australia’s massive Triple J FM, on radio 2SER FM, FBi FM and Rhythm FM as well as guest appearances in radio stations in Melbourne and Auckland (New Zealand) to do some selecta work. The man is also the breaks columnist for the inthemix.com.au website, with his column ‘Nice up di breaks’. Defcon1 is one of only a handful of Australian DJs with a worldwide DJ schedule. He has just returned from his most successful tour yet, this time to NZ, playing to rammed dancefloors in Auckland and Hamilton. At Catalyst nightclub in Hamilton, the Defcon1 show broke all records for attendance at the
club to date!!! Another tour of NZ is planned for later this year, or early 2006 so stay tuned!
AUDIT - Canada
Having a long history of music musical endevours including piano, baritone and drumming, he studied mostly jazz and latin grooves but kept it in check with a punk-rock band after school. At 17 he was properly introduced to hip hop by a local beat junkie who gave him the knowledge of beats, scratching and hip hops' roots. The record collection grew and he travelled the lengths of Canada dj'ing most major cities. From this guy you can expect a Dj set of immense proportion, he'll take you through all styles of breaks, from hip hop to breakbeat and on to DnB without missing a beat. In his sets you will always hear his new material and unreleased tracks from mates around the globe. As a professionally trained sound engineer, Justin is starting to make his mark on the production scene, creating tracks like a true pioneer anxious to provide more than just another beat. Recently signed to Superstyle Deluxe's label 'The Payback Project', his first single 'Phernie Funk' is getting played world wide and a second release is slated for autumn this year. With conscientious thought , it is his mission to create new frequencies and sounds to elevate the consciousness of the planet. Stay tuned for more...
