Saw one of these cool puppies in a magazine a few months back, it can hold more than 3 times the capacity of a DVD disc, it's smaller in size compare to a DVD, about the same size of a MiniDisc, wonder when it'll be introduced here, Japan would be the first place to see it and uhhh-ahhh-ing about it and just as I was speaking, I think video tapes are gonna extinct soon, cos no one buys them anymore

I was just reading about a new invention of a layer on discs that magnifies the tiny dots on a blue laser DVD so that red lasers can still be used. So I guess if you can store blue laser data amounts on a red laser DVD, how much can you store once you do actually go to blue laser?

Not too sure, didn't know there would be a colour laser theory involved, I guess anything to doubled the capacity would be pretty mint, providing that the blue ray disc are 3 times more than a DVD, yet smaller than a DVD

they finally have the discs out???
those burners have been avaiable for months but theres been no media to use it with Razz

the only difference with the lasers is that because the light is blue it has less spread on it so it can burn alot closer together. Its really pretty interestin when ya read up on it, from memory theoretically the blue laser burners should be able to burn up to 120GB or sumthing like that onto the same size disc as current cd media

lol thats nearly the size of the hard disk on my server computer. it seems like soon is gonna be cheaper to just buy the new DVD discs and back up everything onto 1 or 2 of those than to buy more harddrives Razz

Technology evolves so quick, yet we love it so much!

I'll probably sell my hard disk if they have a disc that can hold just as much, although my new hard disk is really just for music and movies, pretty good to carry around, especially when I have friends that wants to copy my music, etc... pretty handy

Need an iPod soon though as I have just sold my Discman to my sister and now have nothing to listen to

They're a nice little puppy (well not THAT little), but not that big either for a 120 GB capacity, I only got mine cos I only have 30GB in my laptop, one year old nearly, most of them have at least 40GB or even 80GB, it's a good investment, no more worries on not enough space, and the reason I bought it is pretty like what you said bring it around places, just plug in the USB and the external power and you're off

I got mine altogether just over $300, hard disk about $180 and the shell about $125

I calculated my Blue laser DVDs that use a magnifying layer to hold 2.9 terabytes... um, I never was good at maths though...
