Blind or deaf

Just curious, if you had to choose between losing your sight, or losing your hearing what would it be?
Me, Id have to say sight - as I reckon Id go batshit without being able to play/listen to music.

Hearing. Being practically half blind already I think I have some inkling of how fucking awful and crippling it would be not to be able to see.

Yeah I wouldn't have music, but I'd have my other favourites to fall back on, movies/TV and driving. And looking at boobs.

Yeah losing sight would be a real fuck over.

It's such a tough call, eh? Losing music would be horrible, but losing sight is a lot more crippling

Deaf, by a long long long way. I would have no qualms about giving up music. Music is nothing to me, compared to seeing.

Much rather lose hearing than sight. Pretty sure you could still feel the bass

About half your brain is involved in visual perception in some way or another. When it comes to our brains making contact with the external world, sight > audition and it's not even close.

Hearing easily .... so fricken blind anyway

I'd prefer to lose my hearing because with still being able to see I'm sure I could find it again if I looked hard enough

I was thinking I would much rather be deaf than blind. Being deaf you can still travel and see beautiful things. .. and at least you won't have to listen to idiots on the plane or annoying american tourists.

Yeah, same here. Whenever there is silence, I can hear a constant high pitched whining. Too many days at the shooting range and too many nights reaching for the lasers.

which, as this thread shows is accepted by most people and their choice reflects that.
Some people in this hypothetical scenario may still choose to retain their hearing.

If you were deaf you could still sing in your head, and listen to it by reading scripts

this is just anti-auditory science bullshit. our neuroscienctific views are socially constructed as a result of the pervasive anti-auditory science bias. We only think that vision is so important, so we fixate on it, and we see it existing every in the brain.

Personally i'd prefer to retain vision, but i have heard that the loss of communication that comes with deafness is the more profound and affecting loss. Signing might not replace that. And, visuality is the realm of superficiality - think Narcissus
