Hey guys, sorry I wasn't able to come up with anything simpler, like Shaunie I found that sorting a decent file uploader app was a bit beyond my skills in the timeframe I had.

If you guys are happy with uploading to a free filehost then messaging me, I can always rehost with anonymous filenames, but there would be a short delay while I do that. Means Bn1 could take part if he wanted to.

You'd just have to trust me as an impartial mediator of sorts.

I had a couple of realisations about this whole thing too. If Bn1 assigns numbers, even though he can't put in a mix himself, he is going to miss out on the anonymous factor when listening to the mixes.

However, there is a simple way around this. Everybody simply labels the mix "Biggie House Forum Mix Off", uploads it to www.mediafire.com (we all have to use the same file hoster) and then sends their links to an impartial mediator (such as kris_b) who can either rehost and post them himself or just bulk on-mail the whole lot of links to anyone to post them (I'm happy to do this). The anonymous integrity is maintained by the fact that all are labelled the same, all are hosted on mediafire, and all are going via an impartial party so whomever posts them can't guess whose is whose by the timelines they were submitted on.

Thoughts?

^^^^^^^ Is stupid!! You should upload them to soundcloud! That way you can listen to them first and if you want to download them otherwise people are going to end up wasting bandwidth and having a whole bunch of mixes they will only skim through because the tracks won't be for them and end up deleting them. Yes I know the whole purpose is to listen to a mix you normally wouldn't but lets face it if you don't like the tracks your going to skim through it anyway.

sorry guys, but im in agreement with timk. if we do this by mediafire and have to d/l each one theres no way ill listen to them. i would much rather stream with the choice to d/l if i like it.

PM me (once you have finished your mix and its ready to upload) and I will assign numbers in the order in which people contact me - the person w/ the first mix number will be the first mix to be hosted when we have clarified which way we're going to do it.

true but it's neither here nor there, if you make so that you have to download each mix then people will download a mix, skim through it, realise that they don't like it and delete it, only thing is they've just wasted 70mb doing it.

it really comes down to how open the listener is to a sound they don't normally listen to - won't make much difference whether they have to dl first or stream before downloading...

no thats not what i meant. i will totally listen to each mix start to finish if i can stream them. but if i have to download each one before listening, i will probably only listen to a few.

my mac has kicked the bucket and hard drive space is at a premium on my pc, so this is purely a selfish request.

Is it zshare that allows you to stream before you D/L?

The problem with soundcloud has been mentioned earlier in that you can only post 5 mixes per month on a basic account. Unless someone wants to shell out for premium or set up several accounts this thing will go on for ages...

Just recieved this advise re. feedback from speakers and phones when soundcard to laptop plugged into record out on Xone 62:

"just get some pliers and remove the horizontal prong (the one that earths tings) from the power plug on your Macbook to stop it from looping..."

It is looking as though the initial enthusiasm seems to be draining from the thread, so I've taken the liberty of registering an open sound cloud account we can use to finally get this thing under way. If anyone has big problems with this, well, you're welcome to suggest a better way but in the meantime lets go with this.

When you finish your mix, PM me and I will give you a mix number to name your mix as and the details of the soundcloud account.

Hopefully we can get some music up this week!
