Right, hosting business is sorted. ShaunieBoy is going to host them via my site www.postmodernstupid.net

He's going to set up the page for them tonight so will have details for you all tomorrow as to how to upload them to him.

Cool

If we can keep the hosting process anonymous I may not actually need to be involved in organising any more, but if you want to keep the details of how to host it private then I can PM them to the registered people.

oh snap, just remembered that in interests of anonymity I will still be required to post each mix in a new thread once its hosted..

OK, so hosting is a mare apparently...

ShaunieBoy said:
Yeah I was mucking about with it last night, theres no easy way to do it to be honest.

Upload on the website - does not have a progress bar, so anybody uploading a ~100mb mix will sit there for 20 odd minutes watching their progress bar on the browser hang until the upload is complete
FTP- no way to stop people deleteing other mixes, unless I setup individual ftp accounts for each person uploading something

Best way would be for people to E-Mail the mixes to you/me but then theres the size problem and time

I suggest we go with webstas idea and upload to a file hoster like www.mediafire.com then send the link to Bn1 to post the thread.

Does everybody have a number yet?
[quote]
Ive reported in, but yet to recieve a number.
[quote]
Hey guys, sorry I wasn't able to come up with anything simpler, like Shaunie I found that sorting a decent file uploader app was a bit beyond my skills in the timeframe I had.

If you guys are happy with uploading to a free filehost then messaging me, I can always rehost with anonymous filenames, but there would be a short delay while I do that. Means Bn1 could take part if he wanted to.

You'd just have to trust me as an impartial mediator of sorts.
[quote]
We does trust you. Smile
[quote]
Cheers for looking into it anyway bro Smile

I had a couple of realisations about this whole thing too. If Bn1 assigns numbers, even though he can't put in a mix himself, he is going to miss out on the anonymous factor when listening to the mixes.

However, there is a simple way around this. Everybody simply labels the mix "Biggie House Forum Mix Off", uploads it to www.mediafire.com (we all have to use the same file hoster) and then sends their links to an impartial mediator (such as kris_b) who can either rehost and post them himself or just bulk on-mail the whole lot of links to anyone to post them (I'm happy to do this). The anonymous integrity is maintained by the fact that all are labelled the same, all are hosted on mediafire, and all are going via an impartial party so whomever posts them can't guess whose is whose by the timelines they were submitted on.

Thoughts?
[quote]
Sounds good to me, I just wanna hear some mixes!!
Anything I can do to help?
[quote]
Cool, yep, you can name your mix as above, upload it to www.mediafire.com then PM the link to kris_b Smile

Same goes for anyone else who has finished one.
[quote]
^^^^^^^ Is stupid!! You should upload them to soundcloud! That way you can listen to them first and if you want to download them otherwise people are going to end up wasting bandwidth and having a whole bunch of mixes they will only skim through because the tracks won't be for them and end up deleting them. Yes I know the whole purpose is to listen to a mix you normally wouldn't but lets face it if you don't like the tracks your going to skim through it anyway.

You guys are dumb! lol
[quote]
Hey timK, if you dont like it why dont you just STFU and GTFO.
[quote]
Hey mish why don't you go FYM.

that's right you already do that. lol

Waste your bandwidth downloading crap then. lol.

Winner!! Mish is a winner! lol.

sorry guys, but im in agreement with timk. if we do this by mediafire and have to d/l each one theres no way ill listen to them. i would much rather stream with the choice to d/l if i like it.

soundcloud ftw, imo. seriously, couldnt we just create 2 accounts..?
[quote]
so when are the individual numbers being sent out??

Haha mish STFU!!

Kind of defeats the purpose dont it if your not going to listen to the all of the mix???

Yeah this is a possibility

Hold off till monday when more people are checking the forum and we will decide which way to go.

Re: Numbers - Don't post in this thread if you have finished a mix!! PM me (once you have finished your mix and its ready to upload) and I will assign numbers in the order in which people contact me - the person w/ the first mix number will be the first mix to be hosted when we have clarified which way we're going to do it.

true but it's neither here nor there, if you make so that you have to download each mix then people will download a mix, skim through it, realise that they don't like it and delete it, only thing is they've just wasted 70mb doing it.

it really comes down to how open the listener is to a sound they don't normally listen to - won't make much difference whether they have to dl first or stream before downloading...
[quote]
true that, looking forward to the mixes this is gonna be alot of fun.

no thats not what i meant. i will totally listen to each mix start to finish if i can stream them. but if i have to download each one before listening, i will probably only listen to a few.

my mac has kicked the bucket and hard drive space is at a premium on my pc, so this is purely a selfish request. Smile
[quote]
Is it zshare that allows you to stream before you D/L?

The problem with soundcloud has been mentioned earlier in that you can only post 5 mixes per month on a basic account. Unless someone wants to shell out for premium or set up several accounts this thing will go on for ages...
[quote]
sorry, am late to this conversation, and need to reread all the posts to understand all the issues, but I have used an upload provider called

www.esnips.com

which allows streaming as well as downloading...

might be worth a looksie.

[quote]
Yeah tis ZShare that streams as well...

Just recieved this advise re. feedback from speakers and phones when soundcard to laptop plugged into record out on Xone 62:

"just get some pliers and remove the horizontal prong (the one that earths tings) from the power plug on your Macbook to stop it from looping..."

Not that keen eh. Might get electrocuted one day? Or am I just being a wuss.

Maybe I should have titled this post "Dear Rob/Proof"?

Lovingly yours,
Mick

edit: vertical prong on plug Smile

It is looking as though the initial enthusiasm seems to be draining from the thread, so I've taken the liberty of registering an open sound cloud account we can use to finally get this thing under way. If anyone has big problems with this, well, you're welcome to suggest a better way but in the meantime lets go with this.

When you finish your mix, PM me and I will give you a mix number to name your mix as and the details of the soundcloud account.

Hopefully we can get some music up this week! Music

Oh, I've already looked into that. Just let them know the environmental impact was too high for the potentials returns to be able to justify it. Further recommendation is that Desire Petroleum leave the oil business and focus on making music Froggy
[quote]
Yeah bro - this is the kind of answer the environmental management dept at UNSW is looking for. Record the sonar of the Cetaceans in the area and make a minimal techno track rather than pillaging arguably Argentinean oil fields for the benefit of British oil tycoons.

It does sound fun, but the primary cue people use to tell whether a mix will be potentially good or not is the name of the person who made it.

I only listen to maybe two-three mixes a year posted here. And I don't really listen to that many mixes per se because they're mostly average even when I do like the artist.

Hi !
I've just visited this forum. Happy to get acquainted with you. Thanks.
