Maesty has listed Chris Martin as the biggest goober in test cricket history - what are yours?

I actually have an English bloke in my head from the 80s, but can't for the life of me remember his name.

Sad

What was he? Bowler?

Martins batting and fielding is abysmal. he seems to have no sporting clues except how to gallop up and bowl
[quote]
Shane Thompson with his quiffy hair and prominent teef was a bit of a goober. Thats just look though, Good sportsman
[quote]
Ewen Chatfield Very Happy Obv goober action, his elbows were all over the place ..and he couldnt bat for shite
[quote]
He was a fat bowler. Derek something???

What about Paul Adams. That's some goober shit right there.

Hardly. Fairly good batting average IIRC

I think you misunderstand the meaning of the word goober vadz
[quote]
Or perhaps its me, I thought you could be a world beating goober though. Gooberisms come from mannerisms/style ?
[quote]
Ya, that's what I thought too Smile

Tim May was pretty gooberish imo.

Agreed. Vads is wrong. As per.

a goober to me is a clumsy player
a kachler/donkey
a central defender as mobile as a telegraph pole

[quote]
It's more about demeanor than results. Dan Vettori is a goober batsman, but he still manages decent results.

Caddick
Hogg
Bichel

Neutral
[quote]
Yeah. DV reveals his goober status when he runs after the ball. You can tell his gait from 1000 metres

Hogg is a good one. I hated that goober!

hard trying to find league/rugby players that are goobers

Greg Turner. Decent NZ golfer

[quote]
Oh yeah Hogg with his bloody tongue out wtf

Peter Crouch, and there's a Spurs winger you lot probably won't have heard of but Aaron Lennon is known for his girly running style. The faster he runs the crazier his arms get and his flails them about like a woman running in heels.
[quote]
Also what about Ian Jones, great player but always struck me as bit of a goober.
[quote]
Pat Symcox was uber goober

<3 him but Very Happy
[quote]
Ole Gavin Larson was pretty goober with his bowling style

Plus he tried to sneak a run in when he'd played onto the wickets!

Was thinking about that one, too! The confused look on his face was gold
He was a bit of a strange dude, too really...but a fucking legend!

Single event: Richardson's cramp

Overall: Phil Tufnell.

Jesse Ryder looks like a bit of a goober. Just watch his gait when he runs. He runs like Shrek!

wow wouldnt have thought the gooberism is so restricted to Cricket with a thread title like that one.

So in the spirit of non -cricket

NZ biggest sporting goober of all time Simon Poleman (for multiple reasons some involving soft toys)

Aus biggest sporting goober - Sally Robbins - (at least she had a pre-ordained theme song)

Worlds biggest sporting goober --- actually no idea

probably some match fixing cunt

[quote]
Biggest sporting goober must be a golfer surely?

Colin Montgomerie comes to mind Razz

You're not really grasping the concept of a goober, it's not about your performance or mistakes you make in your personal life, it's basicaly about how they hold themselves, on field demeanor, or having really awkward technique in their chosen sport.

Poleman doesn't really met the goober tag, he made mistakes in his personal life but that doesn't make him a goober, and I'm not sure it's possible to be a goober in rowing because they all have the same technique, I guess if they had really awesome facials they might qualify.

[quote]
Yep I considered Poleman but quickly dismissed him as a candidate. He was a great athlete and not dorky/gooberish in the slightest really...just a bit of a twit. Match fixing is irrelevant too, thats more immoral/corrupt. Goobers arent really cheats, in barely occurs to them in their happy place to be naughty

oh in that case i submit

Terry Wright

Matt Dunning (i know it was "a mistake" but remember the drop kick?)

or Peter FitzSimons cause I still lmao whenever i see that lineout dive

Dunning definitely... I always imagine him being a similar to Matt Damon in Team America... "Matt Dunning!"

Dutch Speed Skater Sven Kramer and his coach seem to be today's goobers... anyone else see it?

In the finals - having being unbeaten in something like 4 years - he muffed up by moving to the inside lane instead of the outside (on advice from his coach) during the race and was disqualified.

He's the same guy who a couple of days ago was being rude to reporters on live TV.
