There really needs to be two camps. Camp A - European Progressive (I call Proggy prog), Camp B - American Progressive (I call NYC prog). They're so different they can't be rolled into one.

NYC prog people will think that old Murk and Tenaglia stuff is prog but people from the Sasha/Warren school wont..

Tons of prog people will say Age of Love "Age of Love" which is totally awesome but I'm going to go for Underground Sound Of Lisbon "So Get Up". It just always had an x-factor which just twisted the shit out of a dancefloor. Acid, hypnotic darkness but an awe-inspiring energy to it too.

Otherwise, Future Sound Of London "Papua New Guinea" or Spooky "Little Bullet".

Maybe even Sasha - Xpander or Bedrock - Heaven Scent

Age of love would have been classed as trance?? These 2 could of aswell i guess.
I could pick a whole load of gems that each have a time and place....

Although it was produced later than the 'classics' already mentioned, I always thought Matthew Dekay - If I Could Fly epitomised the progressive sound. A couple of others that spring to mind are Cass & Slide - Perception (for a slightly older sound) and Kosmas Epsilon - Innocent Thoughts.
[quote]
Yeah Cass & Slide - Perception always comes to mind when people ask this question. Definitely an all time classic.

There are tons of others though, especially from that mid to late 90's period.

BT - Remember (Sasha mix)
Horse - Careful (Sasha vs BIR mix)

are another couple that come to mind.

More to the point, and respect for your unmovable love of Xpander, but it isn't within a light-year of being the best progressive track. It was a decade too late for a start.

They called USOL "So get Up" trance as well at one stage too but in retrospect its not really. Trance inducing maybe.

One of my all time favs is the Nick Warren remix of Der Dritte Raum "Hale Bopp".
Anything by Breeder.
Seduction of Orpheus?

Fuck knows. All I know is Forerunners "Lifecycle" is my new fav.

I'd love to know what the hell the vocals on the intro to that are saying... they sound so cool.

Ok so if it were to be for me id have to say the most excited i got about getting my hands on a tune was when i finally came across Sander Kleinberg - My lexicon That sure had the heart pumping leaving the store, and i'm sure it's up there with the best.

That's one which comes to the forefront of my mind when this topic comes up too...absolutely beautiful track full of lovely highs and melodies and a supreme, warm bassline.

Another one I feel was amazing at the time and has aged well, i.e the quirks to it and the production level make it still sound like a top notch track would be PMT - Deeper Waters - Sander K remix.

Honorable mentions to...
Greed - Gentle Rain
WOW - Intensify
Nat Monday - Waiting (though very much a love or loathe kinda tune)
Depeche Mode VS Lexicon Avenue - Only When I Lose Myself

Loving this thread! Better put my 2c worth in : )

Jase from Outerspace - Do what you want (Infusion Mix)
Holden and Thompson - Nothing (Original)
Phoebe - Could I see (MAS collective mix)
[quote]
Schiller - Ruhe
Steve LAwler - Rise in
BPT - Moody (might be trance tho)
[quote]
Satoshi Tomi - Up in Flames (Bedrock instrumental remix)

Huh? If that isn't straight-up NYC bitch-house then I don't know what is. How on earth could you possibly get trance from that?

Anyway... to add to the thread again.. I thought about it for a couple of days.

Best progressive house track of all-time: Underworld "Rez" - hands down blows 99.999% of any supposed progressive classic out of the record box.

(There still might be another couple I haven't thought of or plain don't know).

Ouch! Can I say in my defense that it's the Futureshock remix that I actually like or am I eternally damned?

You could have said that before... I could say EBTG "Wrong"... but unless I added "Deep Dish mix" it's just kind of lame pop-music.

In any case the Futureshock remix isn't any closer to being trance.

Let's not forget the last, and arguably one of the best, amazing progressive tracks that basically shut the door to the era of amazing progressive music and changed the sound of trance forever. after this song, trance and progressive were never the same. Nothing could match it. After its inception, others tried to imitate, but failed miserably. never have vocals been coordinated like this again, never has a song flowed so purely since its making in 2003. It was the song that took everything that was great about the classics and sealed the progressive envelope. he sealed it shut and mailed it off, leaving the genre with it. Nothing will made like it again. Nothing will match it. Nothing will bring the DJ that made this track back into the genre ever again. Nothing is the name of this song. Nothing, 93 Returning mix, by James Holden. A classic. An end of an era.
