interesting story, because the police's summary of events is apparently completely different.

According to the police, a man yelled something when Benji had his back turned, and then Benji turned around and punched him. But the police are going to allege that he punched the wrong guy, that it was a case of mistaken identity.

According to this "friend's" account, the guy made a comment to Benji's face and Benji then punched him. No case of mistaken identity.

So now there are 3 stories circulating. Benji's, the Police's/Victim's, and now this "friend"

Well... That doesn't look good then. Hopefully the judge takes his good deeds and general good behavior into account when sentencing and doesnt try to make an example of him. He already does great work in the community, I'm sure he wouldn't mind doing some at the courts behest.

however unlike NZ, apparently provocation is available as a COMPLETE DEFENCE to assault-based charges in certain Australian States eg Queensland. but I don't think NSW. so he may be out of luck? or maybe his lawyers have advised him differently. who knows.
