alright now i know there may be some wack ass white people out there puting us all to shame by rockin out eminem in there starlets crusing up queen street stating they are gangstah and from the north shore ghetto..
BuT there are a few of us that are clued up on hiphop and DO actually get into it in a big way.
now i am sick of rockin it to a hiphop club/gig and gettin the evil eyes from the big ass gangstah bitches as if i dont know wassup!
why is there so much hatred towards ppl like me when i respect the culture and dont go out of my way to be an eat ass wigga "gangstah".

one time i rocked out to this gig and was quite dressed up cause i was goin out somewhere else after and i got looked at like i was scum!
then next week rocked it to the same place but wore my lil ralph lauren jumper and jeans and i was sweet!
so wearing a lo makes me more clued up on hiphop? WTF!
people just make assumptions on my knowledge of hiphop because im white and thats not fuckin fair!

just thought id share that with everyone Music

p.s DE LA UPAHEAD Mr. Green
[quote]
Well it can't be racism - only white people can be racist. Laughing

I don't think it's actually anything to do with perceived knowledge of hip hop, but I don't feel that this is the place to go into what I do think it's about.

On a side note, it appears that not only white people, but also moderators are not allowed to like hip hop *wank wank*.
[quote]
i think you have missed the point.
im not really wanting a debate as such and im in no way rascist.
i spent half of my life in raro and everyone listened to hiphop there..
i just wanted to express my annoyance with this topic and just wish everyone would get over it!

pfunk i know U arent aloud to like hiphop cause u cried about de la comin on a tuesday nite Wink
[quote]
Well I definitely can't see your point in your second post.

Anyway, you come across as very judgemental on here, so perhaps you should look at what you're saying about being judged, and then take a look at yourself?

Ps: You're saying you wouldn't prefer De La Soul were on a Saturday night, rather than a Tuesday? Sure it doesn't affect my decision about whether or not to go, it doesn't mean I can't be a little disappointed that it's on a weeknight.
[quote]
now whos on the defensive!

im hardly ever being serious on here.
if you take what i say that way then i apologise.
all in a little fun.
if you met me in real life you would know that im not like that.
no i wouldnt rather de la being on a saturday night.
town will be nice and quiet.

dont be a grim gremlin its not as though you have never taken the piss out of someone.
if you had made your judgement on me by observing the fight i had with smf then you are also judgmental and very wrong about who i am....
it was purely a lil bit of fun we were having with eachother that got a bit out of hand.we are actually mates in real life.
pull your mouse out of your ass and if you dont want to talk about this topic then go back to the lounge and have a cry.
peeze man!
[quote]
I didn't base anything on your argument with smf - I didn't take that seriously in the slightest.

I haven't met you in real life, that's why I qualify my judgement by saying "you come across on here as.....".

Anyway, you're a friend of Emma's, so you can't be THAT bad Razz

Oh, you also get mad respect for being able to recite so much of Rapper's Delight Wink
[quote]
I know what you mean Samsara. But I think people are becoming less judgemental now ...

When in Sydney, I really enjoyed the hip hop scene there. Colour was not an issue at all.

It hasn't been a problem for me, most people seem friendly to me at hiphop gigs (though primarily only go to fu, maybe its different elsewhere?). I don't bother dressing 'hiphop' at all because I'm obviously a geeky white dude regardless of what I'm wearing, so I just wear whatever.
[quote]
I think its just mindset really.if you wanna make it an issue it becomes one

I mean if you out there rocking your gears, listening to music you love and having a good time fuck what they think.
The fact is you probly have far more knowledge than them and this enables you to appreciate the music it even more; than just some random trying to be cool dudes.
dont let bigots kill your buzz.they dont dont own the club or the music.

I wonder if its the reverse at predominantly white dance events? I doubt it.
peace and love scarlett
[quote]
yeah i mean i have no qualms about rocking it no matter what the vibe

Does UK Garage count as hip-hop?

anyway, I got some evil looks at a club in Birmingham caus I was one of the only white dudes in there, but a few evil looks is all I got , and had a mean crank to sum phat UK garage! Mr. Green
[quote]
oh, and starlets ROCK!!!!! well myn does (dont play eminem thou) Cool
[quote]
I get the mad weird looks as a short, thin, white guy wearing tight fade jeans and tight Ts at hip hop gigs. :p

But that's hardly surprising, right?

I dunno, it's no different than if you turned up at an HH gig ghettoed out with medallions, ripped baggies and an oversized basketball top or something - you'd still get the weird looks.

Generally, I just go to the DnB / hip hop crossover gigs for that reason though, feel a bit uncomfortable at the pure hip hop gigs. And besides, I'm usually going alone since none of my mates are into their hip hop - so one always feels a little out of place in such circumstances. Sad

Who cares anyway, the less you tell yourself its a problem, the less it is, even if teh Footsouljahs crew do yell specifically in your face when rhyming at you in the front of the crowd. Very Happy

i think ganster rap will always make it hard for certain people to b accepted in the seen when its all about this and that "the big N werd". however more comercial tunes and tunes by artist such as jurassic 5, bep etc are making alot more esier to be accepted into the seen cos they are soo much more upbeat so to say, and dont really target the innfluencing but shrinking supporters of ganster hip hop. thats what i mean four!
they aint real hiphoppers therefore by cranking hiphop to be "c0ool" they make us look like dicks. cause it creates a stereotype!

Samsara, sounds like you've come down with a touch of paranoia to me "gettin the evil eyes from the big ass gangstah bitches as if i dont know wassup!" !!??

Making assumptions on what people think of you because you're white is bullshit. GET A GRIP!
[quote]
PS - Define "real hip hoppers" ... what world are you in girl!
[quote]
micello.
im am not paranoid.
everyone who is into hiphop knows that there has always been a predjudice towards white ppl liking hiphop.

a real hiphopper to me is someone who digs a lil deeper than the crap we are fed on zm. and genuinely enjoys learning about the culture and being part of the community.

its not an elitist view and as you dont know me please refrain from making comment based on who i am.
i dont care how you feel about it.
i know that i have problems in that area and know of others that have aswell.
if you havent experienced it first hand then you are lucky. Smile
this hasnt ruined hiphop for me in anyway and i still continue to go to hiphop gigs and feel the music. i was merely discussing the very few things i dislike about the community.

now go buy your de la ticket and stop tryna start sum shit Cool
[quote]
OUCH! LOL got my ticket already thanx.

"its not an elitist view and as you dont know me please refrain from making comment based on who i am. i dont care how you feel about it."

Maybe your stink attitude is the reason why you're getting the evil looks, and maybe I have just been "lucky" all these years Laughing

In any event I don't recall saying that your view was "elitest" or passing comment based on who you are, but thanks for the insight into the true depths of your personality.

micello stop trying to belittle my views on experiences ive had because you havent had the same thing.
if i was a fuckin rude person then i would know why ppl were eats and i would bother posting this.
its not a huge thing for me as i said i still continue to appear at hiphop events. Was just saying i had experienced some distasteful things happen every now and then. and was expressing my frustration.
i dont have a "stink" attitude as you so stated it.
and u micello have no insight as to who or what im like.
i hope you enjoy de la.

If you are open and friendly no matter where you go people aren't exactly gonna bring it on...they see that you're out to have a good time. And really, do you give a fuck whether people are looking at you or not?
Alternatively,
Take it as a compliment, maybe they like yer booty!

But generally speaking, as a female who goes to heaps of hip hop gigs , I have always found that if you keep on dancin', smilin' and havin fun its all good. Just go and enjoy what you went for and don't worry about it!
[quote]
Jen I THATS exactly what I was trying to express before.

All this "if your a real hiphopper you wont......" now thats just fucking stupid.
What so because I went to unity Im not worthy of saying that im into hiphop? you'll probly flip this one over but making comments like that.....mmmmmm back packer?

people who make rash generalisations are just as anal and sad as the racist ones.

Peace and love
[quote]
this wasnt meant to be an attack mearly an observation.
i actually cant be fucked discussing this anymore because lil 'anal' biggies will moan about anything thats in the least bit offensive.

you Scarlett my dear have missed the point completely.
in any of my comments did i mention unity or people that would go to a house event.
i too like house and am probably as clued up in that front as i am in hiphop. what i was TRYING to say is that i have had bad experiences in hiphop clubs because i have been stereotyped due to the fact that im white.
If you havent experienced that then good fucking on you!
dont try and tell me that i havent or that i shouldnt have or that im making it up. dont try and pretend that your not judgemental and that your happy getting down with drunken rowdy kristov driking halenstines jeans with a wallet chain rocking boy racers.

nowhere in any of my comments did i ask for your oppinions on how i should feel about this situation !! i know how i feel and if you have nothing productive to say then quite frankly you should fuck off Smile

*pulls claws back in*

alright!...

Well if you know how you feel and you don't want opinions, why did you post this topic? Surely you expect that people are going to write responses based on thier opinion.
And what do you mean by ppl saying something "productive"? Surely on a subject like this something productive is going to be opinion because of what you posted... I can't think of any facts off the top of my head that will back up or fuck up your initial post, so it's all opinion in'it?

Your contradicing yerself all over.
[quote]
opinions are a personal thing im up for hearing what others have experienced but it wont change what i have experienced. maybe i worded stuff wrong but im sticking to my feelins on this issue.
what i cant handle is people telling me im an eat ass because i feel this way. thats just not cool thats the shit i dont think is neccesary.
