Grey Start To Big Day Out
The Big Day Out 2002 started with overcast skies which is probably a relief from the sun-baked days of previous years.
Crowd numbers, while still looking good, don't appear close to matching previous years. For those coming later this could be good news and at the moment (11.15am) there is still door sales available.
Unlike the other Big Day Out's of this year, the mosh pit remains unchanged. After an unfortunate death in Australia during last years concert it was decided to introduce a circular D shaped barrier to help contain the mosh pit and avoid the crushing motion of the crowd that was implicated in last years tragedy; Auckland is the only venue not to see this improvement.
Punters were welcomed with a small pack of goodies designed to ensure a safe and happy day, included was a small bottled water, apparently imported from Australia, along with a fake tattoo, some lollies and a condom, although no instruction of where and when to use the items.
Blindspot have just taken to the stage and a light drizzle is slowly clearing on what promises to be another great Big Day Out.
