...bid to host the 2003 Rugby world cup. NZ gets to host no matches, they all go to Australia The NZRFU should've rescheduled the NPC or something. They only have themselves to blame. Surely the NPC can't be more important than the world cup?

I heard an interesting theory on this saga the other day (from someone who seemed to really know their stuff). He said that all the grounds in NZ and aussie were talking to each other about the clean stadium issue. The aussies were having as much trouble as NZ in achieving this. The didn't see it as a huge problem because the RWC had demanded clean stadiums for the last world cup in england and hadn't got them, but had accepted it wasn't possible. NZ had therefore expected australia to tell the RWC they couldn't deliver clean stadium, just like NZ were going to do. At the last minute the aussies managed to pull together a deal and put forward their proposal and NZ were basically shafted by them. Would love to know how much of this is true, but given what has happened it wouldn't surprise me. I am sure there is more to this saga than we have heard so far.

Yes justahalf, that is pretty much exactly the impression I have got too. The kiwis didn't take the stipulations for clean stadia seriously enough and the aussies pulled the rug out from underneath them.

I dohave some sort of grudging admiration for how well o'neill has stiched up the idiots of the NZRFU. Kevin Roberts (the head of saatchi and saatchi) made comments about 2 years ago to do with what a smart and ruthless operator o'neill was. If they had listened to him the NZRFU would not have stuffed things up like they have. His comments were so accurate its scary.

Back to the days of the good old All Black amature rugby players...

Our board failed dismally in playing the politics of the game. The Australians successfully lobbied other members of the IRB, whereas our board took the approach of going on the Holmes show to attack personally Vernon Pugh.

One of my australian workmates just came up to me and commented that I must be pleased that all the games will be played over here since it means that I can go to more games.

I was looking forward to getting out of this hole and coming home and being in a home crowd.

Have you seen the comment from the Australian Rugby Board that they are making more tickets available to the New Zealand public to go and watch it in Australia.

Dont be fooled into thinking that they are at last being nice - They just want the increased revenue from increased ticket sales, which will make them even happier.

Going to watch the All Blacks play in Australia will just make the Australian Rugby Board richer which means they will get stronger.

It's a lose-lose situation then for Australia. The underam incident..what did it come down to...winning and money. Australia always plays by the rules, they just take more of a no-mercy approach. And in my opinion all is fair in love and war.

They reckon Australia's gonna find it harder than NZ to fill the stadiums for the preliminary matches. Therefore they're gonna lose money.

australia has six times the population and about 1/6th of the pubic interest in union as New Zealand so add all the kiwis on to that and the other tourists and it will probably make the same amount of money in Aussie as it would in NZ. Just won't have the same amount of passion.
