Aussie team in the NPC??

..the aussies want to put a team in our NPC..your thoughts??

..our warriors play in their NRL, and soon the Breakers will be in their basketball comp as well......personally i wouldn't mind--make it more interesting thats for sure

no way. why should they benefit from our proud tradition of provincial rugby. The Aussies obviously want to close the gap with us with respect to player depth but they should just set up their own new competition.

..super 12 is getting stale...nz teams have won 7 of the 8 years the comp has existed. The south african teams are shocking...it's pointless playing them....ditch the super 12...double the length of npc so you play the same team twice (home and away)...throw a couple of aussie teams in there...sweet azzz

Agree with richy. The NPC is great for NZ rugby. Including the aussies would just help them. Let them sort out their own comp and we'll carry on with ours. As long as the super 12 is going its a really dumb idea.

you cant compare it to the Warriors or Breakers being in Aussie leagues.....

the NRL is a predominatly Sydney based comp and the NBL is a different kettle of fish agin.... the NPC is built on the whole country! lots of tradition there !

another thing, what division did they expect to play in ? 1st ? NO way !

Hawkes Bay fight and fight to get in the 1st division every year, theres no way an aussie team is gona waltz in and start playing in the 1st division !

if they want they can start in the 3rd division and go through promotion - relegation like every NZ team has to !

I say NO to the fuckin Aussies entering our NPC. IMO it's not gonna benefit NZ rugby at all; just the Aussies. We've been helping them out for decades with nothing in return. Shit, they even stopped us co-hosting this year's WC remember!!!

Also from what I've read, if they did enter it'd be an elite competition comprising 3 Aussie teams with Akld, Waikato, Wgtn, Cant, and Otago.

Where does that leave the likes of Northland, Harbour, BOP, Taranaki, and Southland? In the shitheap I'd say.

They must have realised how big their ego's were and are looking for ways to keep it in check.

I'm not totally against the idea, but I really think aus should at least TRY to organise their own comp. I just don't understand how they can be the only major rugby nation not to have a domestic competition (maybe it's because they can then put all their money into the national team, rather than what we spend on our provinces).

If they split up Queensland & NSW into 3 teams, throw in ACT, maybe Victoria, WA, or whereever, they'd have more than enough teams. Make it franchises / clubs, same as the S12 - a formula that's already proven to work.

If it fails, then maybe we could think about giving them more S12 teams or an NPC team. (In the end, it pays to help other countries in a sport, even those wankers)

I think also, when they let the Warriors into the NRL, the Aussies didn't stop to think "hmm.. what happens if they win". That's why they started getting pretty scared last year.

It would really suck to have an Aus team win the NPC....

Aussie are looking at putting 3 teams in - No way

we have the best national competion in the world, & it would be ruined by letting the aussies in...........

P.S this has only come about because the rugby being played in their country is a joke - three super 12 sides & that's it

they need to develope the game in aussie set up their own comp, it's the only way it will promote more players, playering a higher grade of rugby

3 teams in the NPC will only make the 3 average team they have at the moment a bit better, while the rest of the rugby community over there is left in the shadows

There is no way an aussie team should be playing in the NPC. This is a New Zealand competition and, and is the reason New Zealand rugby is the best in the world. In my opinion its better than the super 12.

They get to play with us in the super 12 and that should be enough.

Its not the NZRFUs responsibility to strengthen Australian Rugby. Let them do it themselves. The Aussies would be like parasites feeding off NZ rugby to make themselves stronger.

If an Australian wants to play in the NPC, let him play for one of our provincial teams. That would be beneficial for both the player and the team. Maybe the Australian Rugby Union could pay for the players to come over and play for the likes of Bay of Plenty or Counties.

Imagine Wendell Sailor or Lote Tuquiri playing for East Coast.

That i would pay to see.
