You two need to figure out what you're talking about, ssly.

As for "rednecks enjoying it", there is no purer way of determining a man's martial abilities than a duel, which is exactly what these bouts are.
The respect, honour, sportsmanship, skill, artistry, dedication, and sheer force of will shown by the competitors in this sport make it one of the truest measures of a man that exists.

All well and good but I fail to see how any of this makes it less redneck... Look at the champion, he's practically fucking his cousin.

Chavs and rednecks are two different things... Chavs are sub-human cunts, but at least they don't fuck family.

...And posting a pic of Ronaldinho, please, speedos are a way of life in Brazil... The speedo is to Brazil, what the Swandry is to NZ.
[quote]
Rrrrright. So all people who follow martial arts fuck their families? What the hell are you talking about?

And way to miss the point about Ronaldo. Has nothing to do with his speedos ya muppet. It has everything to do with the fact that he's the ugliest, most inbred looking motherfucker on the planet.

So a sport where the sole purpose is to cause pain/harm to one's opposite is "noble"?

That's less noble than the Holocaust, because at least Hitler had a higher purpose than merely killing.
[quote]
*sigh*

I shouldn't dignify that with a genuine response, but here goes. They're not trying to kill each other, it's a gladitorial sport, which you should appreciate. Man has been jousting, dueling, boxing and practising martial arts for many thousands of years. It IS a noble pursuit, in a sense.

Sure, this latest incarnation is a bit more extreme, but such is the nature of these times we live in.

There's something about that cage too, so primal.

Jousting and duelling were not for the PURPOSE of jousting and duelling, though. Discus had the same purpose.

Do you understand that MMA is a "self licking icecream"?

If you guys love violence so much, watch American snipers taking out towelheads in Iraq. There's video around. Now that's human.
[quote]
yeah, and people dont watch that rather than UFC because it ISNT the violence they are interested in. Obviously. Its the competition, fascination aspect of different disciplines clashing. etc
[quote]
I quite like other MMA, like K1, but UFC to me is so overly Americanised it doesn't look all that different to pro wrestling to me, so I find it hard to separate the two, and as far as I'm concerned pro-wrestling is utterly ridiculous. No doubt some WWF fan boy is going to tell me how some of those moves really hurt and point out all the different injuries they suffer, but just because it's high risk doesn't make it any less fake. I used to actually like pro-wrestling when I was a teenager but the whole concept of ridiculous storylines, retarded feuds, and old men always being champion made me see it for what it really is.

I know UFC is completely different and actually real with proper fights but the final product just reminds me too much of pro wrestling.

Oh nooooes it's fake Shocked

WWE is for kids, want better pro wrestling storylines, watch Ring of Honour, or some of the Japanese federations.
[quote]
lol@people saying they don't watch ufc for the violence.

why is that so hard to understand codpeice?

Theres a shitload of street fight youtube vids, If I liked UFC "for violence" I would trawl them too....but I dont
[quote]
WWE is entertainment...mostly aimed at kids or tweeners.

UFC is ultimate fighting. Professional fighting.

Its like the difference between this

and this
[quote]
WWE > UFC

WWE has the 'external' element - the feuds, the storylines - that gives meaning to the battle in the ring. UFC is its own raison d'etre

I have no idea what your point is either but these are the crème de la crème of martial artists who employ EVERY martial art in combat. This is the purest martial contest there is. Violence is involved but that's an aside; it's the skills and the physical prowess of these competitors that make MMA so amazing to watch.
[quote]
look...i enjoy watching some of this stuff too....for the skilled VIOLENCE they inflict upon each other.

any of you guys ever do any martial arts? i did judo for a while as a kid.

Surely such a variety renders it impure? Or does your definition of purity differ?

What about all of the armed martial arts? Why aren't they allowed?
[quote]
Unarmed makes for a much more interesting competition and vastly reduces the likelihood of death that using weapons would entail Razz
