Or others that know enough about Hi Fi Gear.

I ma looking at getting some entry level NAD gear and was after some opinions...

The NAD C525 CD player

and

NMAD C720 BEE Receiver (I know it is about to be replaced).

The only other Receiver on the list is the Yamaha RX797 at this stage.

Feel free to offer your input!

Cheers

Avoid Yamaha hifi receivers, unless something has changed in the few years I've been out of that game.

What speakers are you pairing to? And what sort of dollars are you looking at for the NAD combo?

Was looking at Mission Floorstanders at this stage.

Can get the NAD package for $1199.00

Generally rate NAD and a quick look online gives good adjectives for that system (neutral, snappy, without treble noise etc). Sounds like good, simple, well-built entry level stuff.

The one question I'd have is around the ability of a smaller amp like that to properly control a bigger floorstander. You need a decent sensitivity out of a smaller amp like that. Can I suggest listening to those against a price-comparative pair of bookshelfs in a similar size room to yours? See what you think of them.

By this, I mean you need a pair of speakers with relatively higher sensitivity (which will be a DB/w/m number, something around uperr 90s probably)

Sorry, meant to say upper 80s/lower 90s there.

Yeah I've always been a pretty big proponent - for, say, $1,500 you get a pretty damn good bookshelf speaker compared to $1,500 for a floorstander. And you can get away with slightly less power/higher quality in your amp stage.
But if you're really after a deep bass note they may not be for you.
