I can’t quite get my head around the fact I ducked under my target time of 12 hours. I’m sure that doesn’t compare with yours, but considering it’s my first year of doing triathlons – not bad I reckon!

1h24 swim – six minutes quicker than I thought I could manage, hooray for drafting!
6h21 cycle - including 6 minutes stopping to help someone who had a crash
3h59 marathon – was great to finish with a sub-4 marathon and my last lap was the quickest of the 4, I threw every last ounce of energy at it.

And, obviously a far-too-long 6m in T1 and 4m in T2, gotta practice them more (or talk less with my club supporters through the fence!).

I got my nutrition on the bike pretty good which I was worried about the most. I avoided eating before or after hill climbs and managed 400kcal an hour without bonking or bad stomach cramp, something that I had problems with a lot in training. Let’s just say though you wouldn’t have wanted to be behind me on the run, hahaha. Someone told me that’s a sign of getting it right though?!

Be a couple of years before I have a go at another one I think…maybe Taupo in 2011 and try for a sub10 at that event. But for now I want to go under 3 in a marathon race, that’s my next target.

Cheers for all your advice earlier in the year…really helped.

Hey

Sorry I didn't see this earlier! Too focussed on tri nations and tour de france threads!

Well done! That's a good first up effort! Is actually faster than my last go at ironman...heh

It's quite an enjoyable day though huh? Save for that last 10-15kms of the run...(or the last 35kms of the run in my last ironman hah)

Yeah toilet stops on the run can help you immensely...

If you do decide to do Taupo 2011, might see ya there. That may be the next time I give it a crack.

How was ironman switzerland? Good race? I was in Lausanne 3 or so years ago for a triathlon, and Switzerland seemed like a pretty cool country. Drivers are so much more considerate of cyclists.

The Switzerland course was excellent. I think the European ones are in general well organised and decent courses, a good mix of flats and hills on the bike with the road conditions smooth. (The UK Ironman is a rough cycle course and little in the way of long, flat sections).

I had thought about Taupo in ’11. It’d be great to come to NZ and do a race. Either this one or the Auckland Marathon. The only negative about a March race is of course for me it means winter training.

I’m hoping to crack the sub-3 milestone in Florence in November this year. Next year I want to get my half-IM time to under 4h45 and from thee try to take my next IM under 10.

And try not to think about all the training that will come with it…hope that injury of yours has sorted itself out?!
