Arriving in London

When any you guys went to London, did you have friends waiting at the airport with a car and a place to stay or did you have to fend for your selves right away ?

Were arriving march 29th and all of my mates over there have left so our plan at the moment is stay the first night in a hotel ( we get in at 8pm ) then book into a hostel/backpackers for 3-4 nights thyen go mad house hunting, hopefully we will get a place pretty quick...
once we have a pad then job hunting is the priority...

is that the way to go or can anyone recommend anything else we should. could do ?

My cousin met me which was good. I would have got so lost on the tube otherwise!

When you arrive at the airport...buy an A-Z. You will be totally lost without it!

an extremely hung-over friend (actually, she was still a bit drunk) came to the airport to pick me up and put me up in their house, and for that i am eternally grateful

I jumped on the Healthrow express and met my gay lover at Paddington station. If you have a gay lover, this is the best way to get yourself grounded.

Got in at 5am, looking for fucken Dty Free, which there wasn't at Heathrow Arrivals in 98. Had to figure out the tube for myself and had to get to Hammersmith on Piccadily line. Got to Hammersmith and went now waht? Phone my friend coz I couldn't figure out how to get out of the bloody station or where to go. SHe lived right across the road at The George on H'Smith Broadway.

Stayed at a friends place for a week and then moved in to student flat.

This time, hopefully gonna crash with friends for a bit, go travelling STRAIGHT AWAY, so we get a holiday and a break from working. THen come back, get job then get flat. Not taking decks, just records, I'll come and use yours Richy!

So how long did it take everyone to find a decent house ?

You talking about getting a flat or something in London? Its well expensive in the City to live, surprised you can do it. I live about 90miles outside of London and even that is expensive enough for me

Live in Brighton and then travel up on the train, normally only takes an hour and a half at the most. Brighton kicks arse!

If I hadn't lived in London the last two times I was there, Brighton was my second choice.

Arrived in london at 3pm caught train to ealing then had to wait for 3 hours till friend picked me and my brother up - wasnt too bad but trying to figure out wht ticket to buy and then having to work out you have to insert your ticket when you get to your destination was a bit rough after 4 hours sleep in 36 hours.

Pretty lucky we are crashing in friends lounge as hes happy to drive us round and show us how to get around to get us started.

Maybe I should call on a few BTers to put me and my girl up for a bit Jon? I'm sure James Nardi wouldn't mind me turning up on his door step, I can see it now " Ullo James, how are you?" " Who are you and what are doing ringing my door bell at 6am!"

Sounds like most people had the same exterience...

I arrived after partying in Thailand (Full Moon Party) and had next to no sleep over a 48 (ish) hour period of time...
Had to get to Leicester Square, and then nagigate my way to The Strand and find a friends work... It was such a bitch finding my way around!

Buy an A-Z if you have to travel by yourself, and have to use the streets!
