MIX AM & Flava96one presents Arrested Development

Auckland’s Saint James Friday Feb 18 / 2005

All it took was Three years, Five Months & Two Days to sign an album contract for funky folk hip-hop, securing their positions as global superstars ...in 92’ the collective more commonly known as Arrested Development, came & conquered our hearts with hits like Tennessee, Everyday People & Mr Wendell.

It was just two albums later & staggeringly more than 6 million albums sold, global top ten chart placing’s, Grammy’s for Best Rap Album / Best New Artist, MTV best Rap Single & not forgetting the award of Band of the Year from Rolling Stone before Arrested Development began to tragically implode...

Arrested Development, the acclaimed Atlanta based artists disbanded in 1996 after releasing just two albums of socially conscious tunes mixing hip-hop, soul, blues and Sly Stone-inspired funk.

When AD broke up in 1996, Speech, labelled by other members as controlling, bore the brunt of the blame, but member Eshe said all members of the group were responsible for the breakup.

"You never know how you're gonna react to fame until you actually experience it," she said. "Everybody had their own personal issues, whether it be greed or envy or wanting to be in control. ... I blame each and every member of the group for the breakup, because none of us was really trying to compromise the way we felt about things."

But the new millennium brings new beginnings, especially so for MC Speech with his newly reconciled, reformed & recorded sound system.

Arrested Development is back. With the brand new album Among the Trees it’s a new beginning but a vintage sound. And it’s out now.

Since touring San Francisco to 12,000 fans, Japan to rapturous standing room only audiences, Atlanta benefits for more than 75,000, The Hollywood Bowl with more than 18,000 in attendance its time to take The Among the Trees Tour throughout the U.S/ Europe/ Canada & of course Australasia.

For the Among The Trees Tour audiences can expect A.D. at their finest.

Speech adds, "this tour is going to be an exciting mix of music with dance, percussion, turntables, and of course all the songs that have made A.D. known. Just like anything in life, you grow. So you're not gonna get a 'Tennessee' part two. It's just not gon' happen, so you just gotta open your heart and your mind to the new stuff. It's fresh, it's new, it's not like anything you hear on the radio at all. It's Arrested Development, but it's a new Arrested Development."

Its your only chance to experience the past, present & the future of southern hip-hop hospitality as Arrested Development perform in Auckland with Aotearoa’s Fast Crew for one night only Friday Feb 18 /2005 – Saint James Theatre.
