So, my friend is Mexican and she's starting to teach me Spanish as I want to go over to South America for 6-12 months in the future.

Keen to check out Bolivia, Argenina, Chile and Brazil (need to learn some Portuguese too I guess)

So far I can say:

Mi nombre es Itchy (My name is itchy)

Como te llamas (What's your name?)

Cuantos anos tienes (How old are you?)

Abla ingles (Do you speak English?)

I'm trying to get my mate to teach me one thing each week ie: Greetings, directions, counting, prices, ordering food etc

Has anyone else ever learnt Spanish? Any tips?

I've spent alot of time travelling overland from Canada to Panama and Ecuador to Uruguay. If I was to tell anyone one place where they should check out it would be:

Iguazu Falls in Argentina (Foz Iguazu in Brazil is ok too). Paradise.

I think Central America is more fun to travel than South America. A little more off the beaten track. Guatemala rocks the party- climb up Volcanoes whilst lava flows beside you.

The Inca Trail is cool, a bit cliche now.
