Anyone been to Jordan / Petra?

going to be stopping in dubai early next year and was thinking of possibly going for a quick excusrions to Petra in Jordan - has anyone made this trip? I'm limited in time and money so need to see if its actually viable

Everyone I know who's been says its one of the coolest things they've seen, but isn't it a bit of a trek from UAE? The countries don't even share borders - you'd need to fly right across Saudi Arabia... not sure what the "limits" on your time and money are, you'll need to do some research!

I've been hunting around on the net for info but not sure best place to look for info...

its a 3 hour flight (approx) about $450 USD return to amman from duabi but as of limited time I think a package deal - flights, accom, transfers to petra is in order - anyone have any ideas on a good agent who specialises in middle east?

I was there in May. It's amazing and well worth the trip. Wadi Rum is great as well but you will need a good 3 or 4 days to go there as well. I had one day in Petra but wished I had 2. You can buy passes of up to 3 days. It's a deceptively big place and it is very tiring work (unless you get one of the poor overworked donkeys around!)
