Listening to the radio on the weekend I'm sure I heard something about an event that is going to be on at the Massey Memorial around the bays in Miramar or more commnly know as 'the big nipple'!! Apparently drum n bass and jungle.

Has anyone heard anymore about this?? Would be a wicked place for Wellington's first outdoor event!! Can anyone confirm if I have my facts straight!! I think I heard it is on the 10th of November.
[quote]
Nah, haven't heard anything specifically like that Bec (being a Wgtn'er myself), but maybe it could be the rumoured location for Breakz of Dawn? ( http://obscure.co.nz/?m=1385 )

If so, that location would be fucken sweet. Obscure says there'll be onsite water too. I assume that means free, then it'll kick ass.

Let me know if you work out if it IS Breakz of Dawn that you heard about.
[quote]
i have always wanted to do a outdoor event up here, the sound qual may be quite crap tho??
[quote]
I have just been on the obscure site voiceinsideyou and putting two and two together I would it confirms what I partly heard, Breakz of Dawn I can pretty much say will be at 'the nipple'!!

Fucken wicked!! I am soooooo there!! Free water is a primo idea, the amount you spend on the shit is rude, I hardly think you'd want to fill ya water bottle up from a port-a-loo!!!

Sounds like you might wanna come down to Welly for this Bliss!!
[quote]
Wellington has a tendency to have shit weather on the night of any outdoor party. So I would start crossing those fingers now Smile Yay summer here soon!!
Can't wait for Whopper Chopper!!

[quote]
welly! get behind the outdoor scene!!!!
[quote]
Yeah, in-fucking-deed. If the last two weekends are anything to go by weather-wise, it aint looking too hot! Anyone get caught in the 7am downpour after Dark Forces? Christ, it was nassty.

I'm not quite sure where "the nipple" is (ho ho ho), maybe I'll have to scope it out prior to the 10th. Does sound bloody good though.

Re: water, I must admit, I am a toilet-taps filler-upper, at least at S9 anyway. Smile
[quote]
Another thing us Welly people are bad at is not having cars Smile because its so easy to walk everywhere who needs cars, thats another thing which seems to put people off Outdoor dance parties which are far from the city Smile But to stop sounding all cynical I will go ahead and say ' Yay!! Let the Weather be beautiful, and let all Wellingtonians buy cars within the week!!'.
[quote]
Yep, my fingers are certainly crossed for good weather!! Its even freezing at this time of the year at night, let alone at 3 or 4 in the morning!! it will just mean we will have to dance harder!

"the nipple" is not all that far out, i'm sure for those keen enough a bus to Miramar would not mean too much of a mission, it is a little bit of a walk up to the top but hey if you drop before hand, you'll be charging!!
[quote]
sounds like you're onto a good thing bec, might see you there :o)
[quote]
If there is any house, I will go Smile
[quote]
Yeah I heard about this Outdoor Jungle/Drum & Bass gig on in November 10th... - Just what Wellington needs, some nice outdoor styles.
[quote]
Im a aucklander but I heard about a mssive outdoor event down there on the 10th. Thinking of making a trip down there. Anyone got any spare beds?
[quote]
Its a great location, big Marble Castle looking thing, which overlooks the harbour, ontop of a hill. I heard from someone that there will be 'some' house. Have to wait and see Smile
And start booking my friends with Cars Smile
[quote]
Wow, apparently it's supposed to be a secret. Just in from the promoters (who I e-mailed this morning)...

Sounds kinda intriguing. *grin* I'm keen.
[quote]
Damn, looks like we ruined the secret Smile
Wellington is Gossip central Smile No secrets are kept here Smile

[quote]
Hahha, well I still don't the the area exactly. Find me a photo online and you'll have REALLY wrecked the secret. *laughs*

You definitely going LXR?
[quote]
VoiceInsideyou - re Breakz of Dawn, pretty sure I heard it advertised on Radio Active this morning, at Massy Memorial.

Free water, I'm there with my pump bottle. Hate getting dehydrated over the night and forking out $3.00 for like 250ml of water. It's like paying to survive.

Anyways, whatever - if it's dance music, I'm there. Twice. With bells on! Does anyone know what the lineup is? (guess thats asking a bit much given that the venues not even confirmed yet)
[quote]
you guys should look at the whats on section every now and then Razz

Two Outdoor Zones

Two Outdoor Zones of Jungle, DnB, Hip Hop, Reggae, Dub, Turntablism, Ambient.

Onsite catering, bring water (limited supplies, hopefully lots and lots), dress warm, firedancing and acrobatics, chill out tents and tripper traps.

Watch the streets of Wellington for flyers..spread the word...all time slots are not full yet so anyone interested in playing drop us a line P.lex@onebox.com

[quote]
That kinda wasn't the point Kryptos. We were just trying to work out if it WAS the gig that Bec had heard about, seeing the location supposedly hasn't "officially" been announced yet.

Also, I don't check the "What's On" at Biggie as it doesn't have good coverage or details for Wgtn events in general, and Obscure tends to be much better (including the details for Breakz of Dawn, incidentally).

Not meaning to put down Biggie, it's a good site, and has the whole community thing going, which is damn cool - Obscure fails miserably on that front. Having said that, Biggie caters much better to the Auckland scene it appears.
[quote]
I have many pictures of Massey Memorial Smile
I will consider going if I can drag some of my Stud 9 Elitists who never leave Stud9 during the weekends, away from the club Smile Even I have difficulties with doing the outside thing ( says the guy who went to the Gathering 4 times ).
Very Happy
[quote]
Well.. if ya send the events through we will put em up on the site! Think of it as something you can do for your fellow Wellingtonians. Its certainly not a concious thing.. its just well.. we can't pick up the flyers or anything very easily. Cause pretty much all the crew live in AKL. MAINLY cause biggies been going for a couple of years give or take a few months.. it started out primarily with word of mouth ya know?.. a small family you might say.

Biggie used to have a 'Wellington Corrospondant' but I'm not so sure anymore.

I suppose me or someone else could do a bit more research, but most of the time the event we come across are more part of our everyday lives.. I'd stop short of plagurism though!
[quote]
Another thing is quite a few Akl promotors are 'more than happy' to send there details through to the crew... you know free advertising / promotions and stuff... I know of at least one Christchurch dude who does.. and why not? If you know any you could suggest it to them? I'm pretty sure subtronix did at one stage?
[quote]
Yeah, I agree Dave, it's in the promoters' interests. It wasn't a criticism, really, just an observation on why I don't check the What's On section so much. And I'm not suggesting you plagiarise off Obscure. Smile

In some ways I'm in a similar situation, I live 35km out of Wellington city, and don't tend to see the flyers and stuff, so rely on the web for info, and stuff mentioned on here or by friends.

If I actually got the flyers, I'd be more than happy to scan 'em and send em up to ya. Maybe I could work on that a bit more.
[quote]
Oh, and LXR - I think at the moment _I_ qualify as one of those Stud9 elitists, but only because I haven't checked Phoenix out or elsewhere out yet!

Fully intending to do Breakz of Dawn by the look of it now (exam study permitting, of course).
[quote]
You'll find that there is not really one 'Wellington Correspondent' anymore for Biggie now, but more or less a small contingent has grown and reports back to the site creator himself.
These include fellow Biggie people from Wellington: Nick Wilson 'Mnemonik' - Brent 'JeffTheChef' - 'Danjar' - Ryan 'Baynesy'- and a few others....

If there are any others that want to join the fast growing biggie team from Wellington, email mike@biggie.co.nz - there maybe a few gaps.
[quote]
I'd be keen if I could help out (anything to inflate the Wgtn dance scene), but since I don't grab the material first-hand (and don't wish to plagiarise off Obscure) I wouldn't be much help I suppose. Might have a think about it though, esp. since in a few weeks I'll be back working full-time in town, so will have plenty of time during lunch breaks to check out the cafés downtown for flyers, and could scan 'em at home. Smile
[quote]
Good thinking, and I'll help out by turning out, so all these events will have a massive crowd of x+1. (can't decide if I'm the x or the 1)

Does anyone think the Wellington contingent will ever be big enough to justify it's own forum on Biggie?
[quote]
I think it is already big enough for its own forum Smile but as they say, birds of a feather flock together, we might be classed as Anti Social Smile
[quote]
Haha, indeed. oh, and that's the last thing I need, more anti-social behaviour at my end. *grin*
[quote]
Well its kinda interesting that you mention that Colgate - Wellington having there own part of a message board... - can't see it happening for a while, but the main thing is, the participation from Wellington has grown immensly.

A possible next step to really see how the board has grown regarding wellingtons participation could be to have a meet up at one of our big events comming up before xmas?
Do I have any takers?
[quote]
I'd be keen for a meet up Baynesy!!

It's good to see more Wellington people on the boards! would be good to put names to faces! Any event in particular you have in mind? there is so much happening between now and Xmas!

LXR I see your'e from Brooklyn, thats where I live too, fancy that aye!!
[quote]
Good to see your keen Bec
lets see...
We've got Hullabaloo & Tidy Trax (24th November)
I'll more than likly be at Hullabaloo
and Fevah (1st December @ Cumberland House)

plus a few others....but it looks like they will be the main events on in the up and comming months.....

Anyone planning on going to these events?
[quote]
Hullabaloo is where I'll be at!
[quote]
Yeah, I'll probably be at one or the other or both, I think. Haven't done a Fevah and missed the last Hullabaloo, and being relatively new to the scene, it'd be cool to give them a go.

I'm sure Colgate will be up to give one or the other a go, at least just for the experience (eh Colgate?).

We'll probably both be at Fahrenhite, and then Breakz of Dawn, if all goes to plan (at my end mainly).
[quote]
LXR and Bec - you guys are both from Brooklyn?? Nice one. You can add another to that list because I'm from Brooklyn too.

Yeah, I'll be going to both Hullabaloo and Fevah. Good guessing voiceinsideyou. I think we should all meet each other in the middle of the dance floor, unless you guys have got a better idea!

Got my Fahrenhite ticket today, $21. And it's got a cool shiny patern on it too. Think I'll stay at home so I can keep the ticket eh =)
[quote]
Oh, somthing else before I forget re the Wellington forum thinge, I figure if the South Island gets one, wellington should have one. We must have about the equivilent sized clubbing population here surely?
[quote]
Sorry to bust the news colgate but steve thomas is a no show. He has cancelled all his south opacific gigs. Phoenix hasn't said anything yet because they have'nt got a replacement as of yet, Bu Steve Thomas is definatly NOT coming. Sorry. There will be some wicked parties over summer though. Can't wait for Lucien foort again and hullabullo and... and... and.. ohhh i do love the holiday season!!!
[quote]
Yeah, I heard that he'd pulled out. Bummer, guess he'll be replaced by a local of some description.

D'ya reckin it'll still be a good night?
[quote]
Yeah, Colgate, I hate living in central city, and brooklyn is almost city, just has Brooklyn Road in between you, or either Central park ( which I never walk through @ night), Damn you Brooklynites, u all copyed me Smile
[quote]
Yeah, I have been there and done the central city living in apartment thing and hated it!! or maybe it was the bitchy chicks I lived with! Brooklyn is the next best thing for sure. We've probably crossed each others paths without even knowing!!

Re. the meet up, I think either Breakz of Dawn or Hullabaloo?!?
[quote]
Yeah, wooo, go Wgtners! Damn you Colgate, was gonna get you to grab me a ticket to Fahrenhite when you were getting your ticket. >Neutral

Nah, just kidding. Smile I guess that's an excuse to do some good quality study procrastination and come on another mission into town.

I'm flexible as to meet ups. Looks like I'll just _have_ to be at several of these events anyway. Smile
[quote]
[quote]
Yeah I've decided that I will go to Hullabaloo this time around too, but if Lisa Lashes didnt have to go and play in Sydney and was coming to Wellington I would be going to Tidy Trax Smile

I also heard that Hullabaloo is going to be held in the James Smith car park where Dark Forces was at, which is ok I suppose, but at Dark Forces it did get damn hot in there

I think that it would be a good thing if Hullabaloo has a Drum & Bass zone for this one, as well as Trance etc

Who out of you Welli people went to the last Hullabaloo? I went to SKOl last time it was on

And also how come they have to put 2 fat parties on the same night like last time and make us choose which one to go to? it ain't fair!!
[quote]
I was at Hullabaloo - kinda unfair how we had to choose between that and Fevah - had fevah been at Cumberland House - then it could have been a different story.
[quote]
I went to the last Hullabaloo @ the town hall and thought it was awesome!! the town hall was a wicked venue for it I thought. A Drum & Bass zone would be fucken cool!
[quote]
Yeah, I wonder what parts of james Smiths they'll use, as I presume they're not going to use all three rooms as wlel as the bar/chill out bit they had hooked up for Dark Forces.

Downstairs was, incredibly hot. And sweaty.
[quote]
Well they have held it at James Smiths Market before and it was kinda similar to the set up to Dark Forces but with much more Flourecent colours / Displays etc.....
They opened up a few more rooms inside the markets which was really good, allowed for more re-freshing air.
[quote]
Hullabaloo is good for colours and displays etc, the expectations for this one will probably be high, so long as it is set up as primo as last time, I'm there!

Back to the original question though, has anyone heard anymore about Breakz of Dawn, and if it is at the Massey Memorial??
[quote]
Ohhh yeah!! thats right - forgot we were supposed to be talking about that... - naa, havent heard anything more yet.
[quote]
Ha ha Baynesy! be sure to post here as soon as you do! I am just soooo keen to know!
[quote]
I know you are! - I think Bliss from Auckland is even thinking of coming down for it being a former Wellingtonian herself!
[quote]
Hehehe, woo - yeah, I've heard from a variety of sources on and off Biggie that it is at Massey Memorial, "the nipple". Not that that means anything to me. All will be revealed next week....
[quote]
<>LXR<> and Bec, Interesting to hear that you didn't like inner-city living. I've been seriously considering it over the last few months, really like the idea of a 5 minute walk to any venue.

Brooklyns good, but that hills a bitch to climb at 7:30 in the morning after a hard night out dancing.

Hey, sorry about the Fahrenhite ticket voiceinsideyou, wasn't too sure if you were going at that stage. Call you Friday and we can arange somewhere to meet beforehand.
[quote]
No problemo. Sounds good to me. Hmmm, do you reckon door sales will cost any more - since Steve Thomas isn't going to be around? Arghh, can't be bothered going in to town prior to going out and then going back again. Sad
[quote]
Hahaha we could make a taxi group to brooklyn Wink
LOL
Now that would be sad. Inner city is nice, just that you have constant visitors, and everything get messy easily because of the inflow of people. Too tempting when people knock on ure door and have a bottle of something to drink Smile
