Eh? Wellingtons DnB scene has ALWAYS been strong, and well promoted...it's nothing new...it's been the most consistently supported scene throughout Wellingtons entire dance music history!
Never said it wasn't, but I've been keeping an eye on the scene for years and never known it to have so many packed gigs with international headliners than it has over the past couple of years - almost every weekend at certain points.

Wellington had a strong trance scene back in 1998-2001, but Nu NRG/Hard Dance came along and squashed it...helped in part by the massive increase in people using P....no one wanted fluff and melody anymore, than wanted angry faced stomping.
I disagree that P was the cause of that. In the UK and UK-influenced scenes like NZ there was somewhat of a backlash against big room trance in 1998-2001, and clubbers instead embraced the 'Trade house' sound which became known as hard house. As a result, hard house exploded - everyone was playing it. Even trance and techno labels were including hard house remixes on the flips of their releases, because the sound was so popular at the time. This also led to labels like Nukleuz and Tidy Trax becoming the biggest selling UK dance labels at the time.
That bubble burst years ago, however, and now most hard house is back 'underground', but still has a strong following in the UK and NZ - P didn't make it popular. The dance music industry made it popular.
