I have the choice of three:

Canon SX10-IS, which I think is the way to go.
Or the SX110-IS or the A2000IS, both of which are pretty much dirt-cheap.

Main use will be pics while travelling. It won't be used much/at all for things like party or club/pub snaps - I'll leave those shots for those who take handbags out.

The SX10-IS is significantly more expensive than the others but is only slightly more than I had intended to spend. So, any reason why I'd get one of the cheaper ones or should I just go for the SX10-IS? Smile

Is there a shop in Newmarket I could view each of these?

The A2000IS actually sounds like a very good unit.

Paralell Imported in NM perhaps?

My brother got the SX10-IS and it takes some dope photos.

Scratch that bit. Tossing up between the SX110-IS and the SX10-IS now. The SX10-IS looks like a sick unit, the only real question is whether the extra bulk is worth lugging around. It's a couple of hundred dollars or so more expensive but that's not too important at this stage.

Good idea to just get in there and check them both out.

I tell you what though, Jo got this little Sony Cybershot from JB for something like $220 ... the photo quality on it is most excellent.

Also if you can get that camera from JB Jo can hook you up cheap cheap!

Ive never really understood those high end point and shoots like the SX10 etc. Theyre so big and bulky for a point and shoot, you may aswell just get a SLR, then youve got more flexibility. Sure 20x optical zoom sounds fab but the quality at the long end is going to be rubbish. Those electronic view finders are a pain in the arse compaired to an optical view finder.

Any of the Canon IXUS range are great for traveling. Not much bigger than a deck of cards, slip easily in your pocket so you dont look like a tourist and great image quality.

The IXUS 970 IS is the way I would go, fantastic little camera. 5x optical zoom (if thats not enough then just walk a little closer..), image stabalised, 10MP (way more than you need anyway).

From personal experience you get sick of having a big camera with you when traveling and end up leaving it behind alot of the time. With the Canon IXUS range just slip it in your pocket and you've always got it handy to capture a spur of the moment photo oportunity..

PFunk: If you bank with ASB and get TrueRewards, I noticed they have the IXUS80IS for TR349.

I recommend getting a lomo fisheye Smile Razz

My recommendation, as a person who sells cameras, is the IXUS 110 IS or the A2000 for you.

For the added size, Bob is correct in saying that it's probably not worth it in the end for you. The only thing is that the 10 does near HD video and the 110 is not very good at video.

And yes Zenith the price goes up March 1! It's looking like it's going to be about 30%.

If you are going to get one get one NOW!

Just my two cents thou.

The IXUS 110IS looks like an excellent unit. Just waiting to hear if I can get one Smile
