All Ages Dance Music vs Hip Hop

Noticed how all ages gigs are almost all hiphop or rnb-flavoured?

CS, K2K etc - all hiphop. Why? I have a theory. When happy hardcore was around, it was all ages friendly. Trance and hardhouse, being second-rate in comparison, is not all ages friendly. So it bores most people and they don't go!

Why is it not all ages friendly?

Heres my theory. Reading the paper today. I noticed that mai fm has the biggiest popular highest rating radio station in NZ i also noticed that they mentioned that they play a lot of hip hop music. I figured from reading the article that there must be a lot of people out there that like this sort of music.. THerefore dance/events promoters *trying to bring back the all ages scene* start putting on hip hop nights etc so that they can get a croud of dance generated young population.. It works. but it also fails. I dont go to hip hop events because i dont like the music, I would perfer a hardcore event. YAY.. Because i love the music. and the people who also like this sort. DEcided not to go because as vadhino said it bores them becuse and because they dont like the vibe/scene. Dance promoters loose and win in both situations?!

Because most all agers have good taste
They prefer vocals-friendly music - happyhard, hiphop, funky house etc

so what are you suggesting? all ages events should be strictly happyhard, hiphop, funky house? I think that trance goes down extrememly well.

That's why dance nights at CS went so well with a trance and hard house policy?

WEll i think that some people get a certian thing about some places.. eg. they become "too cool" for underage clubs. ANd then you get only the regulars that show up. Its not the music that isnt attracting the people.. *some of them dont even know the difference* its alll about image

Well, the problem is that regulars can create a threatening environment. This happened at Icon with the 'clique' of regulars that made newcomers feel somewhat uncomfortable.

exactly.. new peopel think.. "they all know each other and are all in a tight group of friends iwouldnt want to come here to often etc etc yada yada yada." They might feel like an outcast.. REgulars are great.. keeps the club going for a while.. its just that.. when you go to a club everyone there knows everyone else expect you.. because you hardly ever go there..

Do we become regulars of the club to keep the scene going?

Nah, joking. Its cause all the Under age kids like hip hop. They arent into the real stuff.

Hip Hop is World Renown and has more publicity than Dance and stuff.And i guess more people know how to dance to it than Hard House etc etc...Thats what some of mai mates said. but i think its cos they have no taste and follow the crowd and be lil sheep...

N E ways back to the topic. Yeah i invited 20 people to the brain only 4 of them showed up. The 16 or so were into Hip Hop and gave the excuse. i can't be bothered I can't dance to that sorta stuff etc..but yeah its all about The Crowd. why can't everyone think for them selves???

a lot of all ages have no idea about the dance scene/music bascially because they are bombarded with hip hop/rnb coz of course... its what their mates listen to.

man ih8 hip hop aye, i just dont like it how can u dance to it? if i was still in england theres so much more ppl in2 dance instead of hiphop there

Here's the real theory on it, and believe me I can speak from experience. Friday's Hardcore party about 40 people, Saturdays Hip Hop over 200 people!!

So anyway, the reason??

Plainly and simply image!! In case you guys haven't noticed, kids have classic sheep mentality. They only ever do what the others do and nobody dares to move from the trend. At the moment the whole gangster black American imagery is huge with all the music videos and you only have to look at the top 40 to see what videos the kids are watching. Not only that but kids into hip hop tend to travel in packs (security in numbers etc.) and hence the crowds get much bigger much quicker.

The reality is you could be playing Billy Ray Cyrus and as long as the cool kids thought it was "dope" then the place would go off.

With hip hop u don't have 2 dance.. you just stand and look hard in your hoodie and jeans. eyeballing each other down.

If they enjoy people singing about killing each other. The drugs they've smoked just before. the b*thes they've f*d etc etc then let them listen to it...
At the end of the day they don't know what tru taste is =)

It is also important to note that dance music vidoes were readily available on the pulse music show on Max TV about 5 years ago. Dance music back then was getting good distribution to the masses. With the sudden scarceness of dance music distributed through such media, the all ages dance scen has declined in recent years. Its also a case of the blind leading the blind. People who have never been to an all age dance event may be scared off it because the so called cool kid said that dancing to techno wasnt cool.
Trance and Hardhouse is good to dance too with or without vocals. 80% of the trance played at all age raves have some sort of vocal in them so i dont see the problem there.
