This week I'd like to reveiw
"The Roots-Phrenology"
How can u top an actual Hip Hop BAND?
This is the type of album that keeps gettin better and better with each listen.
Many of the reviews I'd read for it said things such as, "intelligent...mature" blah de blah, which left me goin, Hmmmph?
But it actually is.
stand out tracks, The seed, Water, Quills, Complexity-feat Jill Scott,Sacrifice-feat Nelly Furtardo and Pussy galore. Break u off- the current release is catchy but not something to judge the album by either...
I recommend it for all of y'all who dig the melodic, funky type Hip Hop.
If anyone else has an album they'd like to reveiw, please feel free.

Nice idea man - Maybe I will come back and talk about the common album.
Phrenology took me awhile to get into, but I was stoked to discover that hidden track at the end, that one is probably my favourite at the moment.
[quote]
ah yes, hidden track-quite nyce. until the techno break down...but it might go down well in a club for an interlude maybe...
I'd like to encourage u Bn1 to review the common album.
or anyone else who would like to talk about a new Cd/vinyl purchase.
It is after all the album review corner...

Back by popular demand its album review corner time again! (crowd goes wild)
This week I'd like to review....
Major flavors 3- DJ Sir Vere.

Good things happen in 3's eh? Sure do.
This is a cool lil album. Not as technically tricky as the first, like less scratchin and messin up of things but it has a doozie of a track list and a real nice smithering of local talent. Some of the freestylz like Ovadosages, Mareko's and Sontans got the coolest lil beats behind them. Its got a definite aotearoa vs international feel to it. Sir vere busts out some classics too, If it aint ruff, has to be one of the funkiest old skool tracks out.tuuunes like...Nas- got yrself a...Nore's-Nuthin, Common feat Jil Scott- funky for u, Fabolous-keepin it gangsta, AZ-Problemz, Fat Joe feat Ashanti- wots luv, The roots feat dice raw-don't see us...list goes on.

If ya dont have it buy it.

Plus its got the one like Nelly's hot in errrrre on it Wink word.

i'd just like to say something 'bout phrenology if i may.

i was rather disappointed when i first bought it cos the roots are my favourite hip-hop act and it wasn't what i expected.

but, as someone else said, it gets better with each listen.

now i love it. although it'll never surpass my love for 'things fall apart' and '...come alive'.

anyway,

yes, i think major flavours 3 is the shizzle.

the problem is that when i went to aussie, my brother liked it too and i had to give it to him (i didn't have to but he is my brother and i could just buy it again here in nz)

Yeah I gotta agree, I'm still liking phrenology (although 'Seed' is getting overplayed on Bfm).. Its a grower.

Same with the common album, I'm not gonna talk hugely about it, but check that shit - its a wicked album if you like slightly experimental hiphop that is still catchy. Plus its got the neptunes on it.

ok, bare with me now.

snoop is not my favourite rapper in the world. if i ever like a song by him, it's cos of the beats or the catchiness of the song. and i always thought snoop could never live up to the awesomeness of 'doggystyle' which he hasn't... up til now.

paid the cost... is the coolest snoop album ever, sure the neptunes are on there wit 2 radio friendly tracks, but Hi-Tek and Premier both do 2 tracks each as well. then there's snoop's boys doin a bit of production. but overall, the tracks are phat. i would spend the same amount of money ($30 from the warehouse) on a purely instrumental album. cos the beats are phunky wit a capital P.

added to that is snoop's diversity on this album. he doesn't just rap about, blunts, 40's and bitches (minus the blunts now cos he's drug free), he raps about relationships and his beef wit deathrow CEO suge knight. he's no longer the young gangsta muthafucka we all loved on "doggystyle".

take it from me cos i've never been the chap who blew snoop's trumpet. honestly, he's a terrible rapper (imo) but this shit is tight.

4 & a half mic's (if i was an editor for the source)

how about that new snoop video.....with pharrel and all those brasilian ladys .....such a great video

*la sigh*

this is really cool guys, i'm wishin' the house forum had one of these...
i'd been meaning to get the roots 'phrenology' album for a while now and this pretty much pushed me over the edge (in a good way, mind). good work, nice one 'n all.
