Is Donna still dj'n? Her Harderfaster profile hasn't been updated for 3 years now and I haven't seen her name on anything over here in London?

Kinda thought it would have made sense to grab the likes of Steve Hill for relaunching Frantic in NZ... Confused

Best of luck to ya though Smile

What he said, I thought Donna had given up long ago.
[quote]
well she's back!
couldn't get Steve as he was here a few months ago for STEREODAYS and will be here for Slinky in September!

Donna was Frantic #1 Resident so she's just perfect for it! Plus she plays a real distinct sound that not many other people play.

It will be a mean night!
[quote]
Holly heck Donna's back, she rocked all the events I have seen her play at. Yeah it is a dam shame she on the same night as Crank!! Sad

Come on guys, harden up and go to both events like the good old Welly days!
[quote]
Rather see founder of Volatile play out at Crank than some has-been with no production credentials who hasn't played out in ages, tbh.

It's not really fair cop to slap a globally-recognised brand name on an event to get people showing up, then not get any of that brand's current headliners to play the event.

No doubt this will go off, I suppose.

LOLL a lot of hate here!

I'm not a fan of what Andy plays but in the end Frantic is still one of the biggest players in the UK that still manages to do gigs of 2000 people plus, and that's a fact!
[quote]
its also a fact they pretty much killed the scene in London , by trying to squash every other event that ever started , even events at their own club that may rival what they do ,

have u scene the state of london's scene , why do you think they are trying to do parties else where .

Squash you competitors and yes you will be the only one
left , but suffer the consequences by killing your market .

London's scene use to be the biggest and most vibrant. , but when there are no parties for emerging artist and established artists to play at other than 1 or 2 the inevitable will happen ,as has happen there .

NZ doesnt need this to happen.....

maybe for the same reason that Slinky, Gods, Gatecrasher & Summadayze, just to name a few, do it?

well i have posted in here each event we have done!
The last thing I want to do is to kill your scene, is probably the opposity, hence why I have booked Wellington DJ in the past for my gigs.

Just remember that the other half that started Innovation (Pequire) is originally from Welly, thats another reason why we post our gigs in here, and each time have a gig we get few people coming up for the night! On top of that it will be Pequires 21st on the night, I know personally 6 people coming up only because of that!

I wasn't aware you had a gig on the same night when I posted here 3 weeks ago, and correct me if I am wrong but at the time there was no reference to your gig.

I'm sorry you have to feel this way, but if you knew me at all you would know that we don't mean bad.

Peace Smile

Hey guys

JAMES - have you listened to Diego's mix yet? I think you would be surprised on how much his taste in music has changed since you last saw him play... that mix starts at something crazy like 154bpm. I honestly think it would be a mix you might enjoy!

FRANTIC - we decided to book Donna Birt and use this brand over here for two reasons:

A) Donna has been a regular booking with Frantic in the past, and is in our eyes very worthy of a booking for the relaunch of Frantic NZ. Also, we will be bringing in more internationals as the brand develops in time!

B)Frantic is an renown brand that hasn't been pushed in New Zealand for a long time... brands such as Gatecrasher, Godskitchen, Slinky etc are already being done here (and they're going off too!) but are all primarily trance. We want to bring a UK brand that is focused more on hard trance/hard house as this is the music that we love! And seeing as it's all about the music, it is a good decision regardless what you may think about Frantic UK.

Remember this isn't the same promoters as in the UK... it's us Smile and we're all round, genuine good guys Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green

I'm sure that both Frantic and Crank will be wicked gigs, the only reason we extended the invite here is because Frantic is on my 21st birthday and I'm trying to convince as many Wellingtonian's as I can to come up here... cause lets face it, Wgtn always parties the hardest!!

It's on the d/l Kyle. Smile (154bpm to start??? That's ambitious).

we have come up with our own brands!
STEREODAYS & AMPLITUDE.
plus still using Destination brand for the NYE gigs (this NYE will be huge!)

But that no matter what you say, we both respect Frantic and are real excited to do a gig under that brand!!

re the mix, its recorded live at Space, I played after RP, he finished at 154 so thats where I had to take over from. finishes at 162 I think... Music
[quote]
Good question...

The only reason I can think to give you really is the fact that we now have access to a large network of internationals touring around the world thanks to the Frantic contacts we have obtained overseas. We would have loved to have had the ability to bring some internationals into the country by ourselves but we have found it hard at times with other promoters having "rights" to them as they are leasing labels that have exclusivity to certain Djs.

Also as Future Resonance, we are aiming for the move over to the UK in the distant future. We thought it would be beneficial to have some contacts in the UK previous to the move that we have already built some form of a relationship with... it's a big World out there and we are already too aware how hard it can be as aspiring DJs!!

Hope these are sufficient answers? We are really really excited about Frantic up here and I hope you can see past the arguably "questionable" reputation Frantic UK has and get into it too! Smile

As for Frantic, generally I don't really agree with most of the 'hard dance' (and there is definitely a dichotomy between 'hard dance' and HH these days) big brands' music policies, but that's just a matter of taste, I guess.

I have enjoyed a couple of Donna Birt's sets years ago, and at least you're not bringing over Frantic resident Whitby, the self-proclaimed 'saviour of hard dance'...Everything I've heard by that guy is fucking terrible.

Check out the stuff on his website.

quote:
[Whitby’d hwit’be’d, adj, c21st slang]

1. To have one’s mind transported to an alternative frantic nirvana, via the medium of hard dance music.

2. Tired out, exhausted, as if from enjoying something immense and pleasurable.

He may be only in his mid-twenties but already Andy Whitby has achieved a status and massive following that comfortably trounces the biggest DJ names that have many more years of experience. He’s a phenomenon that continues to grow momentum at an almost frightful pace. His sets are highly inspirational, massively addictive, hi-octane, powerful hands in the air affairs delivered in a unique style. By the time a track is included in his play list Andy will know how to get the very best out of it; he will know every tiny micro-beat, every miniscule detail. Such obsession makes him a member of the top-flight elite; consistently winning awards and fans the world over. He’s a promoters dream; “if I secure Whitby on my line-up my event will sell out in advance” one promoter said to me recently.

Andy Whitby’s fans represent the entire hard-dance spectrum, many travel huge distances from all corners of the UK and beyond; many will have the name Andy Whitby embossed on customized clubbing wear they’ve had made for them; their enthusiasm is rewarded by a performance that often leaves many a gibbering wreck.

More recently, his fiercely loyal fan base packed out the launch of One AWsum Night; an event packed with a line-up of DJs to compliment the Whitby experience. The launch was massively over subscribed and instantly making the One AWsum Night events eagerly anticipated by many and form an integral part of clubbers diaries.

Whitby’s unquestionable and seemingly unrivalled DJing skill is only part of the success story. A Whitby set will always be peppered by many tracks that are either his own or are remixed and re-engineered by him to get optimum performance and maximum impact within each set he plays. Any track that has come out of the Whitby studio is hugely sought after by other DJs and fans, so much so some DJs who should know better lift huge segments from Andy’s demos to include in their own sets. Such is the demand for these tracks that it has prompted the creation of AWsum, Whitby’s own record label; each release enjoying instant download chart-topping success.

His confidence and ability to pack out events would perhaps make some achieving the same success ever so slightly arrogant. But spend any time with Andy Whitby and you’ll find that he is extremely down to earth, immensely appreciative of his fans support and constantly surprised by the massive amounts of attention he gets where ever he goes. No matter how many people want photos taken with their idol, or various bits of memorabilia (and often their anatomy) signed, Andy will always oblige.

Andy Whitby for many represents everything hard dance-dance should be; fast, fun, friendly, euphoric. For everyone else they are yet to be Whitby’d.

...what a knob!!!
[quote]
The one that used to be up there was even funnier. Don't ask why I saved this to my computer Neutral

quote:
Andy Whitby is not just a hard house DJ, he is an experience.

He is a state of mind.

He is the transporter of minds and souls to an amazing frantic paradise that, while leaving you knackered, strangely also leaves you feeling re-invigorated.

At 6ft tall and broad-shouldered, with his trademark shaved head, a chunky ostentatious chain around his neck, and immaculate dress sense (if it’s not designer, it doesn’t go anywhere near him) he makes an imposing figure who commands respect.

His confident appearance is matched by his masterful control of a good mixing desk. Before each set he always powers down the previous track and leads the packed dance floor in a show of appreciation for the out-going DJ, before kick-starting his performance into a blaze of visuals, an orchestra of special effects which extracts every quality beat of each track as he begins his show.

To watch Andy DJ is part of the Whitby experience. Cocky? Perhaps, but certainly not arrogant, Whitby is now in control of the minds and bodies of his audience. A very precise and confident body language gives a visual indication to what he is playing as he acts out each track.

Yet, he is not dancing; this is something far more emotional. Imagine watching a porn star having hot, rough, yet passionate but dominating sex to a breathless, wailing lover which, in this case, comes in the shape of a mixing desk. Forceful, dominant, aggressive yet somehow tender and caring. The visual impact allows your body to further immerse itself in the ecstasy he is submitting you to; your ears alone cannot possibly absorb everything that he is throwing at you.

As for his sound, imagine every track as a partially completed canvas. Through the use of effects on the mixing desk, Andy adds his own colour, texture and feel as he maximises every beat of every track to create the unique Whitby sound. His precision mixing at incalculable speeds is part of the show; as each track mixes in you can positively feel the dance-floor going up a notch to keep up with the frantic and energetic DJ that has them all by the balls.

Andy’s blend of vocal uplifting bouncy house is like him: deliciously hard yet very accessible. And when Andy makes eye contact with you, even if only be for a second, you get to experience the ultimate unique sensation of him seeking your seal of approval. In that moment you have transcended being a mere audience member, into being part of what will almost certainly be the set of the night. The sheer euphoria you feel is exceptional. And then at the end, breathless, skin tingling and with a grin on your face from ear to ear, you feel as though every drop of energy has been sucked right out of you, just like those few moments after one of the best orgasms of your life.

Accompanying Andy to a gig is quite an experience. He is literally mobbed upon his arrival and departure from each gig, with fans eager to speak to their idol, or have their photograph taken with him. Mobile phone-cum-digital cameras are designed for such occasions as his devotees put one arm around him and pose with their hero as the other arm acts as a remote-controlled tri-pod for the self-portrait.

Fortunately, Andy’s driver doubles up as proficient photographer for those not quite so adept at taking their own photos. Andy is always more than happy to oblige, which on one hand is good for the clubbers, but on the other a logistical nightmare for his driver when trying to get Whitby from club entrance to DJ decks for his set, then back again in a timely manner. And for the time he is performing, the space right in front of the DJ decks is hotly contested floor space.

Andy Whitby is the standard that so many more strive for. There are a plethora of CD compilations that he has mixed but listening to one of these is like trying to view a fine piece of art in a darkened room. You need to see him live to really appreciate the full and overwhelming experience that is The Saviour of Hard-Dance.

You can generally tell if a hard-house event is going to be credible and worth the money if you see Andy Whitby’s name heading the DJ line-up. It’s almost like seeing a quality assurance seal, royal crest or five star rating.

He is young.

He is good looking.

He is stone cold sober.

He is professional. He is addictive. And he is damn good.

Must question why you posted an Andy Shitby video especially when your promoting? Surely that would only succeed in driving prospective punters away? Wink

Saw him the other night at Frantics HHA 8th bday which was partly the reason we left after 2 hours!

On another note, completely agree with ya J* Smile Cally = cute!

re andy, haha yea point taken, the crowd in the video + production looks real cool, hence why I added the video!
My mate was at Frantic 11 last month and she said same thing re his set....

What time was he playing? why did you left? was it only one room?

Was at the Brixton Academy, so huge venue (with about 4 different zones on the night).
We got in about midnight, saw Adam from Lab 4, BK and then he jumped on about 2? we were out the door at 2:30 Smile
