Yeah, but the likelyhood is you're only hearing what shit comes out in the public/popular arena, for which, bar the odd artist like Lupe Fiasco or Alicia Keys, it would be a favour to
everyone if they stopped making music.
So that's like me making overall assumptions on house music based on David Guetta and Calvin Harris...
Mo Town legends would be listening to Madlib, (the late and arguable greatest beatsmith) J Dilla, DJ Shadow, Jazzy Jeff, blah blah, i could go on forever, and nodding their heads. Though none of that has a lot to do with house, 'cept that real hip-hop continues to have a big influence on (mostly US; esp. detroit) techno and house.. Even laurent Garnier drops Dilla (Jay Dee) in his half of the Kings of Techno CD. But you really need someone like kenny dope to weigh in on this, i suppose.
I posted this this in the house forum a bit back anyway, pretty much your hip rnb'r house beats done well and it's not gonna be on mai fm anytime soon.
On a side note, I was actually fairly gutted the other day when i went onto wikipedia, where under "Hip-House" they listed songs like I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas & Sexy Bitch David Guetta & Akon, next to legendary tracks like "Kid Get Hyped" by Deskee & "I'll House U" - Jungle Brothers. It's dead you cunts for a good reason: so you can't fuckin' revive it and ruin its awesomeness!
Anyways, here's a nice cut up of one of Dilla's albums, incase you wondered what real, recent, hip-hop sounds like.
