lomu is a good player but as harvey points out he does have a lot of weaknesses in his game. sure he may attract tacklers but i don't think against the aussis that would be an issue.they are more clued up than that. also lomu's form of late has hardly been suggesting a starting position is merited. lacklustre in his starts and off the bench against crap teams does not really show much promise against the big aussi guns. i think lomu is overrated, sure he can turn a game but that happens rarely these days and too much is nostalgic.
i don't agree with mitchell's team, too many crusaders.they maybe strong in super 12 where they can operate as a strong unit but test matches call for individual flair and there is not enough of this in the team bar howlett and cullen. if you remember the last time that mitchell fielded so many crusaders against ireland in auckland the tries didn't start to flow until there were replacements made and the unit broken up so here is hoping mitch knows best come saturday. perhaps the fact it is in chch will lift the game as it truly is home advantage.

Marshall won't be on for long hopefully. I just don't get it. I don't understand it. I know they go on about his combinations with Mehrts, but surely that doesn't make up for his lollipop passes and average-everything. I know the country is divided on this issue and I have a bit of a girly crush on Byron Kelleher but I don't think that clouds my judgement on his superior ability as halfback.

Sadly, I think Jonah's best days are over, which is still not saying he's no good. He's great, but unfortunately this is the NZ team which means that twenty other young punks want your place in the team, so one wrong move or average game and they start baying for it.

In a way that's our downfall. The chopping and changing every week because we just have too much talent to pick from. It may prevent us gelling properly as a team from one game to the next.

Rugby is overrated shite! I hav'nt seen a good game of it since the 70's and early 80's... Bill Osborne, Stu Robertson days. The cocks that play these days would'nt know how to put together a descent running game if they tried. Hence my preference for playing league from the age of 15 to 25, after starting at union from the tender age of 6. Bloody glad I made the transition when I did. I've seen club rugby games that have been a hell of alot more entertaining than the crap the All Black tossers dish up. They're to busy bein up their own arse, what an egotistical bunch of fuckwits they are!

Mitchell is trying to play an english style of game. What he wants is 15 guys who are good at retaining the ball, and he will play a style that suits that. What we'll see is lots of going into the tackle and laying the ball back, getting field position, then hoping the aussies make a mistake on their line and we sneak a try. That style does not suit us and will not win us the world cup. We need to use our flair to try and score try, not grinding down the opposition. Lomu doesn't fit into the plan as you want to get him out wide in a one on one position to try and score a try, but this risks losing the ball to the opposition. What will also happen is our game will become predictable and sides will figure us out very quickly.

In terms of positional changes, under the scenario above we have a good team. I agree that ralph, marshall and hewitt shouldn't be there. At centre we have 2 outstanding players and I think it is the only position where 2 world class players are competing for one spot. I would rate Umaga ahead of Robinson though. At no 8 collins should be playing, but is injured. Same with flavell at no 6. The current selections are probably the best options in that position.

I can't see the Ab's winning the world cup under mitchell, but I hope I'm wrong.

Theres nothing wrong with Lomu, he will prove his worthiness next time he gets a start. His powerful running would have been invaluable in the Nz Vs Oz game where he could have picked up a number of the down-field kicks and ran them up at pace. Saying that, Caleb Ralph had a good game, with a heavy workload.
