I am not sure for this race but im pretty certain that each race they will be competing for the race seat by who ever gets the best quali lap in.

His name was mentioned and he had hoped to drive in the eastern creek weekend but he says he hasn't been contacted at all.

Can't test in this series, cars are made available only for the practice sessions 2 days before the race...

although dixon will be in Germany as a guest of the team

the plot thickens.

I reckon Greg Murphy should go race Nascar's, he'd clean up and stuff all kiwi's watch Nascar and thats a shame because its so damn entertaining, the only form of American motorsport im dead keen on minus Indy.

Jonny Reid brilliance up the outside in the sprint race! New Zealand second equal on the table of the World Cup of Motorsport woohoo!!

I have to say that after watching the Japanese F1 Grand Prix and then switching over to watch the A1GP... what a joke... those cars are so slow it's almost laughable.

They'll need to fix it over the next season.

Also, notice their TV titling/info is almost too small? and they don't tell you obviously which car you're in when on in-car camera mode? They need to get their act together quickly.

But.. absolutely great work by Johnny Reid. Consistency is THE key to a series like this.

Rob mate, your missing the point of A1GP, of course F1 cars are much faster, they spend fuckloads more money making them that quick, 550BHP in something thats weighs around 690kg (??) is fucking nothing to turn your nose up at dude, its still panty wetting performance, the point of A1 is to make it affordable for everyone.

The other stuff is just teething problems, they will get their act together eventually, look how long F1 has been going for. A1 is a great series but it'll take a season or 2 to get the bugs out.

At the moment my biggest complaint is the bullshit pit stops, that shits needs to be sorted out in a hurry, having said that NZ seems to be sweet so roll on! Very Happy

Of course F1 cars are faster, but A1 cars are significantly slower than people expected. They wil def need to up the HP or lighten them. Their accelleration to top speed is a joke and is againt a lot of what motorsport is about. People who get a good out of a corners don't get the benefit of being able to get on the gas earlier... Most of the passes have been through people make errors, not skillfull driving. And this will lead to what? Accidents such as the one with Nelson Piquet Jnr which was about 2% away from being an instand death crash.

As for the teething problems. When you hire a professional sport filming company etc you get it right. Having titling that is too small isn't really teething problems, it's just slack. F1 quality coverage should have been their minimum benchmark from day one and they had all of the resources to do it.

Racing is the main theme though and it's bloody good to see something different. Costs aside they need to up the horsepower a bit and drop the cars weigth by 50kg (and fix their wheel-nut problems) or they're only going to be regarded at the same level as Indy Lights or Formula 3000.

no driver aids though, so if you up the HP the cars become even harder to hang on to

No traction control, no ABS, no stability management

I dont think the cars can get quicker without bringing in some of that stuff.

Pretty much agree about the coverage issues..

Make them 50kg lighter then, solves the HP/KG ratio and lessens the wheel-spin aspect of it.

ok deal Smile now.... to take another 50kg out of something that is already completely carbon fibre... hmmm me thinks they may be as light as they can get em...

oh wait! I've got it! Only women drivers from now on, have to be hot but I think im on to something here, imagine Danica Patricks left right and centre, all weighing far less than the men

Get me Maktoumbs number!

i think rather than bitching about it we should embrace this. i think its so much better than f1 its not about the $$ anymore, its racing for the pride over ones country, not whos paying the most for drivers. just my 2c. i am all for A1

F1 cars are 100kg lighter and they still have balast to bring them up to weight. Some of the cars reportedly in the region of 50kg.

Making them lighter wouldn't be that hard actually. Reduce the height of the sidepods.. you'd run smaller radiators fine since the cars would have less weight nd maybe drop a teeny bit of wing. sorted.

What's the guys number.

My view is this series rocks.. but is not as good as F1. I personally don't care how much money they use in F1 as long as it's low enough for there to be the right number of teams. Those guys bleed sponsors dry to run their stuff and it works.. look at how friggin amazing the cars are. The A1GP cars are simply not fast enough for it to really rock the roots of F1.

I can't wait for the day someone gets a 1995 F1 car and puts it up against an A1GP car.

This is the best part of the series for sure. A level playing field (technically) and home-grown drivers.

How long until someone has a Rugby Union type "I wonder where I was born.." incident.. so they can drive for a team. Or the day Ernesto Bertarelli decides he's over yachting.

Again the technology in F1 cars is far better than A1GP due to funding.

I wouldn't dream of running smaller radiators, your playing with fire making a call like that, the engines need to be as reliable as possible, I dont know how dropping a teeny bit of wing is gona gain you a worthwhile weight saving, plus the A1GP commentators have stated that A1GP cars have far less down force than F1 cars already.... watch when they corner, they are already a handful and a half, no driver aids certainly makes it more challenging, I dont believe the A1GP cars can lose anymore than what they have just to get them down to that weight, however theres is nothing to say the 06 car won't be an improvement but are Lola making a new car for every year?
