after reading the exceptionally witty postings in this forum, id like to invite or incite any techno lovers to come and meet me face2face , maybe converse here and there for 5mins or so, but basically exchange some good vibes to some good tunes. ( haha! Razz )
I will be playing two sets of Techno at this event. One the big room, hard funked styles and the other more of a sleazestar, bumpin jackin funky style.
there's different styles playing all night, and two rooms running so hopefully many will be pleased.

Djs include: ( i won't try to define their styles) Haze, Chelfyn, Justin Sane, Taz, Ignite,Cookie Monsta, and The Filterbrats (LIVE).

Great to see. go cube, go maya!
[quote]
a small correction to listing above: Haze has been replaced by Ignite. otherwise its all the same.

I'm getting very excited about this - cube is a really good venue for techno! low ceilings, industrial maze feeling about it and loud loud bangin soundsystem in there. I'm looking forward to hearing Maya play, as i've not heard him play for ages. Are you playing percussive or acidic, or a bit of both??
[quote]
I can pretty much break it down to the following (roughly) for anyone interested:

DJ Maya - Techno (various)
Chelfyn - Techno (various)
Ignite - Hard Dance
Justin Sane - Hard Dance
Taz - Hard Dance
Cookie Monsta - Something different
The Filterbrats - Something different

Music

I'm really excited about this event! For myself, since N2O Nitro, have been trying to combine several styles and not just stick with one or another, going to an event should be like going on a journey where people take you through different styles, theres so much good music out there and we should just limit ourselves to one specific style each time, our rumpus room will incorporate many hard dance styles or as we like to define it:

hardhousetrancetechno

Where as the playpen will give you something completely different, an alternative chillout room, deep and funky techno mixed with other styles to sink your teeth in...

Tickets will be available through Ticketek for $15 soon!!

[quote]
I RECKON....

hes worth more than that.
[quote]
Guys, it was really difficult trying to fit everyone in and give people decent slots, we had to reduce all the set times and move things around.

Many of us are taking early slots and avoiding the second room so people play out at better times. It was either a good slot or to play in both rooms.

Maya, if you want Force 5 to have more time he could always go back-2-back with you in the second room.
[quote]
sweet as Justin, u can only do your best, i understand your position totally.
cu friday night. Cool
[quote]
Cool
[quote]
well people.....with only an hour to drop some badness...you better be their with your dancin boots on cause this set is gonna be the most relentless hard twisted techno set you have ever heard.and the sickest hardest set ive ever played...hope your up for it. cause i am

[quote]
How bigs the second room?
[quote]
Cheers Maya, Force 5 and Chelfyn. Really good to here some big room techno!!! Pity there wasnt a little more of it... Wikkid nite, hope there will be more in the not so distant future!Peace Smile
[quote]
i was there about for a couple of hours sometime after 1:30. I went to both rooms a couple of times but didnt hear any techno - just hardhousey type stuff. My opinion anyway. I mean it was hard and fast, but so is a jackhammer. Guess I see techno as a bit idm. Also think that the genre lines are very blurry and peoples concept of them can differ. Can those DJ's who think they played techno that night maybe do a post and drop some names from their collection so we can establish whether we are talkin at cross-purposes or not?
[quote]
No worrys sambaloco,an awesome night was had by all.

Thanks to all those who did attend 3some i hope you all enjoyed yourselfs as much as i did...and we too hope to see you all again in the not so distant future.

Hey PEAT to clear a few things up...i played from 12:25-2am and every single tune i played was techno...if you couldnt hear or tell that then i belive you are the one who has his wires crossed on genres.

hears a few of the tracks that i played...someone please verify that this is all techno as im taking offence to being called a hardhouse dj.

hydraulix15/dave the drummer
hydraulix16/dave the drummer

blackout audio007/the anxious vs. patrick skoog/industria

phuture wax records001/tom wax/and then it hit me(remix)
drumworks/glenn wilson&d.rodell/sub tempo

this list is not in order of how they were played.nor is it everything that i played.

im sure you will find that these are indeed hard big room techno tunes.
and im sure someone from a record store will confirm this for you PEAT.

once again thanks to all those who attended and i hope to see you all again soon.

[quote]

I will check them out. Never heard of any of them.
[quote]
I even played some techno amongst my hard dance stuff....

Hydraulix18 / Dave the Drummer & Chris Liberator
Raw r01 / Guy McCaffer
Bang On 9 / The Alien Thing
Powertools 12 / Ain't No Stoppin This!

[quote]
I think you could safely define most of the artists provided here as "hard techno". Definately no detroit noodles there.
[quote]
Cheers Slug, its good to get some support... we've all worked so hard! Smile

I know we weren't a complete hard techno night, but I think we (as an event) did our bit in helping to promote this angle of music amongst that of hard dance... I also think we opened a few eyes and helped to show people that techno isn't "all boring" or "all crap" as some thought...

Techno is a HUUGE genre, there are many aspects of it from Detroit to Acid, to funky, to hard techno... we should open ourselves to all areas, theres a lot of good music out there! Music
[quote]
"Hey PEAT to clear a few things up.....if you couldnt hear or tell that then i belive you are the one who has his wires crossed on genres. "

Actually Peat is NZ's biggest techno punter at present, he's had me up for playing tech-house in my techno sets before Wink so I know he know's his shit pretty well. As for hard techno asa format, he knows what that is too - NOONE else in the entire history of the world would have brought the Space DJs loop tools for home listening pleasure!!!!

Go Peat!!!!!!

Good to see the party went well, keep up the hard techno onslaught (PS. you guys should check Miles Kuen, he's been the hard techno king of NZ for a number of years now, untouchable).
[quote]
hahah
yeh Matt cant say I've played that disc much - it does get a little tiresome manually jumping it from one loop to another !! :+)
(N.B I have one turntable and have no aspirations to be a DJ - just like to listen and boogie)
But a friend of mine sampled it into a groovebox and had some fun, so never regretted purchasing it. And anyway I think of it as support for those Space Boyz - they are the bomb, their gig was the one of the all time greats, so my pennies going a lil bit their way is all good. And I have d'l'd a bit of their stuff so swings and roundabouts etc.

Re the 3some gig. I think I just timed it wrong and heard the wrong DJ's. Or maybe I dont really know what hard techno is.... for me its things like Umek and DJ Bone and Luke Slater...... Would you agree Force5?

Slugs seems to be making a distinction between hard Techno and Detroit "noodles" heheh - where I would have thought Detroit techno overlapped hard techno quite a lot, tho obvously if theres too many "noodles" then maybe it starts to be a bit electro....

But the good thing out of all this is that I will still check out Force5 and JustinSane at next opportunity and I have some leads on new music

(I'm sure none of us want to get into those facile genre wars)
[quote]
Yeah its a tough call peat, but i would personally still consider most of Umek sort of stuff as techno (or "club" techno gah). Someone like Gaetano Parisio in some guises i would class as hard techno.

Actually i think its all getting above my head a bit, like art, i just know what i like and most hard techno has too little groove for me to enjoy.

Lets hear it from the experts....Crucial, what say you savvy?
[quote]
I was also startin to think that I couldnt really be bothered with too much defining - and that it just boils down to wot I like. The problem with that is that ya wanna communicate (in words) to people and then you have to start using labels. A rose IS as sweet by any other name but if I call it a geranium you wont know what I'm talkin about if I say I like geraniums!

And true true groove (syncopation kind of) is good - thats what makes it more than just a machine hitting a pot lid at a totally regular 140BPM.

Altho machines can groove - I once had an experience in a supermarket where I thought the muzak was really goin off and then I realised that it was noise from the fridge I was standin next to!
But let me assure you it was pure techno - totally industrial - literally!! And somehow the vibrations were not quite in synch which was setting up a groove that actually changed.

Arrgh raving now...
bored at work heheh
[quote]
I can certainly understand peat, before i even knew it, i was into techno. As a wee lad i requested that the washing machine and dryer were on in the next room each night as so to lull me in a alpha state induced by the mechanical drone.....
[quote]
yeah sure i would call umek techno, but due to a few of his releases of late i dont know about hard club techno.

the stuff we are playing probably originates more from the acid techno side of things...like The liberators....but with alot less 303 action.

but in saying that there is also alot of more purist type techno in my box also like the advent, marco bailey, adam beyer, henrik b.
but to shock you all,we are playing this at 145bpm+ and its mashing good

but hey all techno is good,so lets stick together.

and yes crucial i would be most interested to hear a set of myles harder edged faster stuff.as he popped into mind thinking about our next venture.
so get him to contact me djforce5@hotmail.com
[quote]
Indeed techno is all good, and thus we seek to discover techno in its many forms, in the hope that we discover a new groove, or new sound that we can entertain our senses with, and i suggest also why most techno djs are not one trick ponies.
[quote]
As far as Umek goes, a lot of the stuff I've been picking from him lately has been hard as, not his recycled loops or tech-house stuff, bu this consumer reaction style... hard distorded monoloop techno.

145 is fast, but check Advent live for real pacey hahah

What I'd suggest for hard techno would fall under the lines of Chris Leibing, Andreas Kramer , Patrick Skoog, DJ Rush, Glenn Wilson, some of the Gaetek stuff (as opposed to his deeper stuff on Southsoul, many of his remixes are hard). Luke Slater would be considered one of the more versitile techno djs around, and can hammer it out pretty well, but can also spin deep and nice.

Comments Miles???
