28 local companies under an umbrella group wants the Government to refuse a visa to the Dalai Lama for his planned visit.

WTF?

Who are these organisations? They should be named - to think they can be the local arm of China's political wishes - I would like to know who to steer clear of when buying things.

This is what the association's chairman Steven Wong said:

"The Dalai Lama is just a stirrer and everywhere he goes, he spreads lies and destroys relationships."

Doesn't seem to be in the same tone as his association's mission statement:
quote:
To reinforce cooperation with other Chinese community organisations - To focus efforts and ideas - To service Chinese communities - To contribute to New Zealand Society
[quote]
And...
quote:
"It is not a good move, and Mr Key will find it hard to find any Chinese here who will support his decision to meet the Dalai Lama."

I did a quick poll of two Chinese people who've moved to NZ in the last five years on skype just now and both love the Dalai Lama.

You want to be careful Rob - we might call them Chinese government stooges, but you and the rest of the ACT party call them your base.

Ha ha.. Wasn't it your mates who spent recent years ass-kissing the Chinese govt?

I don't even think foreigners should even be allowed to own land in NZ.

and Like I'd ever vote for Act

good to see people pushing their agenda over an issue like this

and one hopes like hell that the govt ignore their request and any pressure exerted

we're a democracy that values certain ideals... having dudes in dresses from other countries visit is one of those

Does everything have to be about Labour/National politics with you two? Neutral

*referring to Rob and fishy, of course..

I know the Dalai Lama has recently been denied entry to South Africa due to Chinese pressure :/

China can leverage aid donations over South Africa though, I would find it highly unlikely that they would use the FTA as a bargaining point for the dalai lama, and we don't exactly need aid here Razz
