Didnt see much of the game as I zzzzz'ed after Conrads try, but radio sport/the herald/biggie appears to be quite muted in what must have been a pretty comprehensive performance to zilch the yapies in their own country. Its almost as if we only like to talk about the AB's when they are down

I did have a LOL at whats I thought was the NZ contingent wearing black/All Black jerseys....on closer inspection they were actually coloured saffas Laughing

Amongst my mates, we're all buzzing about the whole night of sport. I'm absolutely stunned by the 19-0 victory but the game itself is a bit of a blur thanks to the late hour and a lot of flicking back to the Olympics. I find it very hard to concentrate on a game when viewing is interrupted.

I think the rest of the country will be in a similar boat.

And to think we were concerned about losing at Eden Park and things disintegrating into 5+ losses on the trot...

Also, I think it's pretty positive that we can have other sports muting our rugby ranting a little.

Such an awesome game! Was so proud of the boys. Very Happy

Definitely the best display of the ELVs so far in this Tri-Nations!

But yeah, it's been totally lost amongst all the bloody Olympics crap

For sure... Holy crap how many turnovers did McCaw make?.. and he makes the guys close to him play better too - I think he just gives them a confidence edge to run with the ball knowing he'll be there *bang* to secure it when they're tackled.

Muliaina - again a very solid match.. so good at blasting through especially when the opposition are a bit puffed in the 2nd half.

Top game by the boys and they really showed that they can win the close contests after that display. The Boks seemed to be their own worst enemy though, they came close to scoring tries on 3 occasions that I can remember:
-Jacobs going for the line and then being turned in the ruck when he had numbers out wide.
-Du Preez dropping the ball 5 metres out after getting over the advantage line from the scrum.
-Habana scoring only to be found in touch on the replay etc.)
Will be interesting to see how Deans and The Ockers match up against SA over there and whether SA can bounce back.

Actually this was an interesting one. The touch judge (assistant ref I guess) called it... and the ref went upstairs to check it..

The replay clearly showed the foot to have touched the line yet the upstairs ref said that he couldn't confirm it - W. T. F? - luckily he said to refer to the touchies call.

How can a guy with video replays be so ambiguous?

that sideline ref was one W.Barnes fwiw

I just read that Carter goaled 2/9? omg what a hiding it could have been

Couple more of these hidings at home to come I hope. Hopefully SA can change coaches pretty soon ...

Montie missed a few too. Shocking night for kicking. Apparently the swirling wind in that stadium is a nightmare for kicking.

I'm happy to exchange a slightly lower scoreline for the South Africans having to eat that delicious donut Cool

Yeah, and he was curiously helpful to the All Blacks causes too O_o

Newlands is the easiest place in Saffa to play, it's at sea level and most of the bleks in the crowd support our team Very Happy Aussie will have it tougher, I reckon they have a good chance to take at least one win though

As in I would call that in touch. I'm wasn't sure if you're saying that he was not lbushill. Smile

I wish the TV coverage had images of that quality!

That's the worry I have with the video ref coming back saying it wasn't clear... one of the TV angles showed it almost as clearly as that photo.

R
[quote]
It looked very clear on, I think, the second or third replay. You could see his heel go over the line each time but one, if not most, of the replays shows his foot clearly touching the line.
[quote]
I thought the issue over that was that the ref made a mistake in referring it to the video ref. That the video ref can't make a call unless it is in the act of scoring a try?

Yeah.. maybe, I don't know what they can go upstairs for. That aside he came back saying it was unclear as to whether Habana had gone into touch which is just WTF? It was totally clear.

(Either that or I misheard his reply to the field ref)

Nah wasn't disputing he was in touch Roman Smile, more the fact that SA played themselves out of the game when they could've scored multiple times. They need a new coach badly, De Villiers rambles on almost as incoherently as Ian Jones on commentary and his tactics seem somewhat flawed i.e. keep the same ones Jake White used Smile

I think you might have misheard... as I recall it, the TMO said to Barnes (the ref's earpiece wasn't working at the time) that Habana was clearly out. It was an act of try scoring, as Habana had touched it down before the ref had blown his whistle for Barnes's flag. The odd thing is he didn't trust his touch judge's call. Altho I'm not sure if Barnes said he was unsure or not.

That said, the reffing was pretty good. The saffas may feel a bit hard done by, but it definitely wasn't the difference. Altho it was damn funny when the ABs forced it in goal from a 22, and McCaw had to remind the ref that that's a scrum back on the 22, not another 22 Very Happy

Aus will win one of the two games, but hopefully only one. That'll setup an awesome last game... altho I'm not sure we'll win that, given the long break we have between games.

Oh yep. Weird choices by De Villiers indeed. I would play Jantis instead of MOntgomery. As well as Pinar at halfback.

I bet Paddy O'Brien is having a word to them about that. Imagine if the ref had disagreed with McCaw.. what then?

For sure, he is definitely one weird customer (a quote he stole from Bruce Lee):

"What we try to tell them is when you point your finger into the sky, don't concentrate on the finger because you'll miss all the heavenly glory out there. Concentrate on the heavenly glory that you can bring and make yourselves so fulfilled."

Jimmy Cowan. Laughing

high five... oh!

We noticed that on the replay on Sunday. Solid gold!
[quote]
Yeah hahaha CGW highlighted it was well .... I love it how he then pretends to be clapping....its the equivalent of the *trip-stumble* oh no I didnt trip, I was just breaking into a bit of a jog over here

Not sure who that was who left him hanging, but both of them will be getting roasted for it by the rest of the squad no doubt
[quote]
Laughing @ Cowan. I saw that on the night too.

He should've left his hand up and done the 'don't leave me hanging bro, don't leave me hanging bro...DON'T LEAVE ME HANGING BRO!

Looks like the old guy in the headphones. The player with dark hair is standing too far back for it to be him (either that or he's 5 foot 8 and 65kg.)

Oh yeah its def the support crew guy...just dunno who he is exactly. Dunno why the name Mike Cron springs to mind but it does....maybe a rugger trainspotter can clarify

Oh Cowan! Laughing

Poor bastard.
[quote]
Yeah but like bundy said, he could have turned it all around by acting mock_irate....instead he looked crestfallen and pretended to clap, made it 100 x worse Laughing

Not so sure about that, there was a couple of occasions where I thought Matfield could have been marched 10 metres. Yes the captain can talk to the ref but when he tells twice to go away and turns his back then you follow him and keep arguing you're walking a tight rope.

TMO Can only be referred for IN GOAL decisions, as he wasn't in goal technically the call shouldn't have gone up stairs

One more loss this weekend and we can look at a new coach hopefully.

Fuck, tbh I wouldn't be suprised.

Mate he is teaching the very simple basics of rugby wrong and you can see that in every game. The rugby he wants SA to play is just not viable on International levels. He needs to go and we need a real coach!

Reading the papers it sounds like De Villier's contract is air tight, their is a performance clause in it but it won't be invoked until next year.
