I'm itching to trade in my old prepay brick and flog off my 8310 to get a nice new PXT (bluetooth-capable) phone for a few hundred bucks.

Was looking at the T610 - it's the best value of the lot, has what I want (big screen, bluetooth, polyphonic ringtones, camera and about half a cm longer than my 8310). OK, so it's not the latest phone that's so new the solder from the factory in China is still hot, but it's solid and isn't some try-hard PDA that will have a load of things I don't need (and will have to pay for). Plus I can't stand those damn flip-phones.

Thing is, I deviated from the Nokia brand once of twice (to Siemens and Alcatel) and hated the fucking things due to their horrible interface and lousy texting.

What's your opinion on them? Good value? Should I rush out now and get one before the end of March? Or do other phone dealers like Mobile Phone Traders have them for around the same price anyway?

They're all good, a bit dated now... but still a great fully featured handset. My only "issue" is that the screen is kinda hard to se in bright direct light, and the camera a menu system are a little bit on the slow side. But overall its still a great buy, even without the trade up.

nokia 3660 is awesome...

MGC proves that he also knows nothing about cellphones.

It takes 640x480 pictures with the best resolution I have ever seen on a cellphone.

t610 is ok but it doesnt have much memory and like they said is a little slow. Its not as big as the nokia 3650/60. I think the software has been updated since the originals and either way for a small fee theres people who will flash it with the latest firmware and remove all the vodaphone live crap (tho this may void your vodafone warrantee).
[quote]
I was going to do this too but every Vodafone dealer I went to was either 'out of stock' of phones or really fucking useless on service.

I was standing in two separate outlets obviously waiting to get served, looking at phones etc and got NO SERVICE.

Two useless chicks at the Downtown Vodafone outlet just stood around filing their nails and talking about their weekend and two dodgy gangsta types at the Vodafone Queen St. store just sat on their arses.

Obviously these two-bit 'Vodafone retailers' have such small margins on the business they can't be fucked.

Also, I heard you do not automatically get $150 off a new phone for your 5 year old Nokia - it's 'up to $150 off'....

So I went and got a Sony Ericsson T630 from an Asian paralell importer who was much more helpful.

Nice phone too.

True - what was the damage?

Dammers... Remember my t68i?? $1300 phone, dead after 1 year and 1 month.

"Water Damage" apparently includes atmospheric moisture Rolling Eyes

Back to Nokia, will not stray for a long time.

$650

T610 is RRP $599 so not bad.
Looks much better and is nice to use.
I've always used Ericsson stuff...

Got the black version too (not the white version they sell in Oz)

Vodafone Live stuff is a bit of an ass to set up - lot's of 'This model of phone is not supported' messages and stuff but I don't give a shit about that
[quote]
Its NOT "up to" $150!!!

If you're being told this then you're being misinformed!!

It is $150 Wikid PXT Trade Up.

The phone can be 021/025/027.

Must be connected.

Must have NO cracks or physical damage to housing or screen.

Must turn on and make a call

Battery is required.

Charger is not.

You are only able to trade up to a PXT capable mobile or Vodafone Live mobile.

Thanks for calrifying Jeff.

Either way, paying more for good service is more important to me than getting a few bucks more for my old phone.

Vodafone were shocking.
Well, maybe not Vodafone themsleves but their two-bit 'licensed' dealers in their crappy little cowboy dealerships.

hey bro...

if you can handle the extremely slow interface, then the t610 is a good phone... it does everything you need, and the texting isn't TOO BAD, however the menu is really slow, and the "return" button takes a while to get used if you're used to using a nokia interface...

if you want to go nokia there is the 3200, which for all intents and purposes looks very similar to the 7250... it has a camera and all of the same nokia nicities Smile plus it has a flash light! its tri-band, and has BETTER polyphonic sound than the 7250... and infrared, xhtml and all the cool bells and whistles... the camera even has a timer - the 7250 doesn't! only thing is its kinda ugly (but so is the 7250)... and i can't find specs on the memory...

but the RRP is $500, so you'll be getting all of those features for $350... definitely hte best buy in terms of interface, features and cost...

hope that helps...

No bluetooth though Wink
[quote]
Yeah I'd like bluetooth, so I can be a nerd and use it with my Powerbook as a remote control...

Cool
[quote]
The T610 has bluetooth.... I'm sure

My T630 does - maybe wait til that comes out here (it's in Oz already).

Definitely seems like a much improved 610 - much sexier although the camera quality is a bit shite
[quote]
t610 has bt and theres app plugins for syncing with outlook and for remote control of winamp or other proggies - you can even browse your entire computer from your phone, push or pull picture or wav files - its really quite geeky Smile

I hate those flip phones....

here's the T630: (this is the white one - I have the black version - much nicer)....

File transfer, headset (no need for a carkit) up/downloading images, sending the images to your mates with bluetooth devices without having to pay for PXT... quite a few things really

i guess if you think you'll use it then go with the bluetooth, but personally the texting and menu is too slow and would get to me... but if i was forced to go v-live! that would be the phone i'd get...

The sharp GX30 is another one to look at.. although its quite a large handset its got some of the best features available on a handset

1 megapixel camera
Bluetooth
SD Card support (hotswappable ans most handsets only have MMC support... SD has higher data storage amounts)
262,000 colour internal screen, 65,000 colour external screen
Video with audio

but its a lttle more pricey @ $1299
