New Zealand Plays Host To The Red Bull BC One AsiaPacific Qualifier - The World's Leading B-Boy Break Dancing Competition

The most globally recognizedB-Boy break dancing competition, Red Bull BC One, is coming to New Zealand forthe first time ever.
B-Boy fever will soon gripthe nation with today’s announcement that the Red Bull BC One Asia PacificQualifier is to be held at Vector Arena on Saturday 1st September2012. Tickets go on sale July 22 via Ticketmaster and with tickets limited to3,000 it will sure to be a sell-out crowd.
New Zealand is one of justsix countries chosen to host a World Qualifier event. The competition will see 16B-Boys compete head-to-head in knockout battles, trying to break their way intothe Red Bull BC One World Final held in Rio de Janeiro in December, where theworld’s best B-Boy will be chosen.

RAHZEL, member of “The Roots” and the undisputed “Godfather of Noyse” will host the NZ qualifierand will surely mesmerize the audience withhis unique and notorious beat boxing talent as he has done in previous Red BullBC One events. He believes Red Bull BC One has helped elevate the element of B-Boyingto a level never imagined.
“Being the original host of this eventI can only expect greatness. The creme de la creme, the worlds greatestcompeting on the world’s supreme B-Boy stage – the RED BULL BC ONE!” saysRAHZEL.
The B-Boys taking partin the qualifiers have won one of 60 cyphers that have been held in 52countries around the globe and will be pushed to reach new limits by the beatsand ryhthms of DJ Mar Ski of the MightyZulu Kingz.

“This is a once in a lifetime experience for any B-Boy. No doubt it will be tremendous” says DJ Mar Ski.
Auckland Cypher winnerAkorn (Aron Mahuika) will represent New Zealand in the Asia Pacific Qualifieralong with Wellington’s Cypher champion Grub D (David McCavitt). Fellowcompetitors are from Australia, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, SouthAsia, Laos and Vietnam.
Grub-D, who was also lastyear’s NZ Red Bull BC One representative, is excited to earn another spot thisyear. “I was lucky enough to get into the top 16 last year at the qualifiersand I’ve been working really hard to improve my moves. I’m so amped”.
Tickets to this all-agesevent are available from Ticketmaster from July 22 with ticket prices startingfrom only $35 + booking fee. Doors open at 6pm with the competition kicking offat 7.30pm.
