Kiwis are shy. It's amazing with our natural bashfulness that we find romance at all. Not only are we backwards in coming forwards but our inbuilt tall poppy syndrome means we also don't like to boast.
And we think people that do are up themselves.
Our friends however are happy to say all the things about us that we can’t. And it’s about time the ones in relationships, smugly eating Thai takeout cuddled on their comfy couches, spread the love and help their mates make a match.
From 6.30pm – 8.30pm on Wednesday 10 February at the Longroom on Ponsonby Road, Checkoutmyfriend, a new website that wants to take the cringe-factor out of internet dating, is hosting the world’s first Speed Matchmaking event.
Each single person comes armed with their wingman who joins them for a series of short dates. For every date the two friends help ask and answer questions and screen possible matches. After all no one knows us better than our mates.
