NZ RnB enthusiasts have been patiently waiting for the arrival of Pieter T's debut album, and after a year and a half Life, Love, Lessons subtly appears.
A cleverly produced 15 track LP (1 intro and 2 interludes included) feature tunes & themes reminiscent of a young Usher. However some definite slow jams like I’m down, No One Needs to Know and Quite Like You ft Aaradhna introduces a sexy soulful nature only executed in this decade by the gentleman himself Neyo. Surprisingly Pieter’s sex appeal and swagger is musically refreshing.
Great execution by the Kog family on this album complimenting both Pieter’s vocal ability and style. In the past collaborations with some of NZ’s finest can deter attention away from the artist and/or the track itself, but with the likes of PNC, Vince Harder, Aaradhna, Dei Hamo they adequately flatter the album and its artist.
Would have loved to see what was left on the cutting room floor, because some more up tempo tracks could have made more of an appearance to make this album the absolute RnB tribute. Above and beyond, the collaboration with Aaradhna won me over; as it embodies everything a slow jam should be slow, sexy, and smooth.
Good things take time, and satisfyingly this album was worth the wait. A solid 4/5 in my books.
